I’m surprised he isn’t in some sort of protective custody (being a celebrity) or in a lower security/less violent prison (since he did a plea deal).

They sent him to a low risk minimum federal penitentiary. But, unless he requests protective custody, there really is no such as a risk free prison. Even the club feds have people prone to violence if you push it.
