Hampton, Va. – An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday in the 2100 block of Kecoughtan Road by a man he was reportedly going to rob.
Hampton Police say 18-year-old Jafari Mitchell and a 15-year-old male had approached a 71-year-old man, displayed a gun and demanded money.
The 71-year-old man, fearing for safety, pulled out his own gun and shot Mitchell. The 15-year-old fled from the area.
The 71-year-old man remained on scene and called 911. Police say he cooperated with the investigation. No charges are being sought against him in reference to the shooting at this time.
The 15-year-old was caught and has been arrested in connection to this incident. He has been charged with one count of attempted robbery and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He remains in custody at a secure detention facility.

Can neither confirm or deny that assertion.

Well, Hampton, VA is majority black. Chances are the 71-year old was as well.
There's some very nice folks in Hampton, don't get me wrong. Been there a few times. Just have to be careful!

In a normal world, the 15 year old youth would be charged & prosecuted for murder in addition to armed robbery.
I say the odds are slim he will be prosecuted for anything.
That old (probably white) guy might be a different story though.
He should be charged as an adult for felony murder, since his 17-year-old partner died in the commission of a crime to which the 15-year-old punk was an accessory.

Just think how many crimes were prevented in the next 50 years by this action.
The shooter deserves an honorary lottery prize in the millions.
