Relatives of a teenager shot and killed while robbing a home in Miami are upset with the homeowner for defending herself.
Trevon Johnson, 17, spent the final moments of his life last Thursday trying to rob a woman’s house before she killed him during a confrontation, according to CBS Miami.

We had a friend years ago who shot and killed a young man in his back yard. He had woken up in the night, heard someone in his house, grabbed his hunting rifle and caught the guy running away across his yard. He shot him.
Surprisingly, he was not charged. I was glad of that, but it does seem a little problematic. Unarmed, fleeing....pretty sad.
Maybe if they taught their kid better he wouldn’t be dead.
You cant assume they are not armed just because it isnt obvious. Just like,because they are fleeing it doesnt mean its over, it could just be retreating and regrouping, or getting more people.
Dead victims assume a crimimal is “only robbing”.
Lots of robbers have murdered people during their robberies.

I guess that alert didn't go to the police also, or did she beat them there? If she arrived, trayvon would have to get past her to flee. Shot in the back or front? I don't expect you to know but yeah it might get difficult for her. Hope not, she was probably fearing for her life.

I like how the robber’s family says he hadn’t taken anything, seeing as how the yute did not make it home with his plunder. Surely they realize they’re begging for the karmic justice system to come rob them blind, too. Phffffffffffffftttt!
With that attitude, it’s an easy assumption that someone in that house disqualifies for her own license to carry. Ahm jussayin...
This is Florida. While they have good self-defense laws on the books, it’s still gonna be tough to claim self defense if the perp was fleeing at the time.
I’m just basing this on the many articles and trial coverage that I’ve read on the subject at legalinsurrection.com. Andrew Branca is a lawyer that covers these issues there and is a self defense expert.
I expect him to have a piece on this one in the next few days. There’s going to be more facts coming out about this that will maybe give a clearer picture.

She can also be forgiven for racing home when, on Thursday afternoon, her security system alerted her to another break-in at the property.
But can she be forgiven for, according to police, fatally shooting a teenager as he fled her house, even as officers were on their way to help?
Reminds me of the young woman walking down a dark street when a big thug jumped out of the shadows and started ripping her clothes off. She wasn't worried ... she knew she'd left her wallet at home.

Thanks for the link. Shot in the chest in the house, but cops told her not to go in the house so she must have called them, I guess. I’m not going to speculate further, I usually end up wrong.
To get a jury of 12 to convict her they will all have to be hood rats.

If I was a 100lb woman I’d be scared enough to shoot a fleeing perp.... I’d be afraid he would come back some dark night. It’s something to reflect on.
Yeh, he should have had the chance to die from gang violence like all of his friends.
