North Carolina Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler suspended five deputies after 78 year-old John Franklin McGraw punched a Black Lives Matter activist who disrupted a Trump rally and flipped off the crowd.
The sheriff suspended the deputies for several days. Two deputies were demoted.
Seriously?
A North Carolina sheriff has suspended five deputies for their actions at a Donald Trump rally in which a black man being escorted from the event was allegedly assaulted by a white man.
A statement from Cumberland County Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler on Wednesday said three deputies were demoted and suspended without pay for five days. Two other deputies were suspended for three days without pay, and all five were put on probation for 12 months.
Butler launched an investigation after a video showed a man with a cowboy hat hitting a black man being led from the arena by deputies March 9. Officials said the deputies had their eyes on the stairs when the man was hit.
A news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office last week said John Franklin McGraw, of Linden, was charged with assault and disorderly conduct after the rally Wednesday in Fayetteville.

I don’t blame the deputies, and that old boy was out of line.
Yeah, they should have arrested the feisty geezer too.
Hard to believe so many can be at fault though.
TIme to pull the rap sheet on the BLM goon.
The hell is wrong with this guy????
They need to learn the difference between ASSAULT and BATTERY
ASSAULT is what the ‘protester’ did when he showed the people both his IQ indicators.
BATTERY is what happened when the 78-year old man slugged him for it.
A defense for battery is if you are assaulted. The officers were right in their discretion not to arrest him. They should appeal.
He was not in handcuffs at the time, and he stuck his middle finger in the face of the old man and the crowd. Getting slugged for it is a natural response- I would not convict him.
Maybe they should deputize the old dude...78 and still feisty!
Someone shooting a bird at a crowd is not a defense for battery by an individual against that person. Not sure where you got that piece of wisdom.
Some rumors running around here that a couple of the deputies actually saw what happened but ignored it, hard to prove though. Ol’ Quick Draw is now worried about how this will affect his 2A rights, he seems to be a little bit unstable.
Wasn’t this the same NC sheriff who just decided yesterday not to proceed with charges against Donald Trump for inciting to riot? Claimed there was insufficient evidence for any charges to stick.
Your not dealing with a 20 something person who grew up with flipping each other off, they have been desensitized. Your dealing with a man who went thru war, is most likely a vet, and does not put up with that sh!t. Nor should he or anyone else have to. He reacted, probably like he would react to anyone else. Notice that he slid his fist, and hit him with an elbow. That’s experience, and why I think he is ex military. I am sure many of you have a grandparent that would do the same thing.
I wanted to slug him too. LOL!
I saw it when it happened and my first thought as a former LEO (law enforcement officer), those deputies can not give the old guy a pass. An LEO has to be above the politics of any given situation.
I think the old guy was charged later, wasn’t he?
Was he the same guy that said “the next time we see him, we may need to kill them” ?
And here we have freepers going to their fainting chairs because an almost 80 year old guy slugged a Black Lives Matter man. BLM is basically a terrorist organization and the individual, in my opinion, got what he deserved.
Exactly.
And once the deputies started “escorting” him out, he was under their custody and the PROTECTION that comes with it.
Again, the man’s age is not a defense to a charge of battery. He clearly committed battery against that BLM idiot. It was a stupid thing to do.
the sheriff is Democrat
