I've been thinking about Levin's anger lately. I notice how he tries to box callers into agreeing with him by asking about their conservative "principles," and if they are willing to give up their principles to vote for Trump. He doesn't tolerate any dithering around that question.

So I thought about how I would answer it.

For me, it's not about aligning around my principles, it's about aligning around my goals. I can tolerate a less principled candidate as long as I think he's best positioned to achieve my goals. Of course, there is a minimum principles line I won't cross, but I don't think that Trump is anywhere near that line. But we have to win the election first for any of it to matter, and I don't think the "principled" Cruz has the general crossover appeal to win.

So what are my goals? Right now, they are simple: first, build the wall; second, screw Mitch McConnell. We can go from there.

So who's in the best position to do that?

Mark, I don’t even know who the hell you are even talking about with this “we” crap.

I listen to your show every day and have done so for years. I’m not a progressive populist. I’m a Reagan conservative.

And I’m for Trump.

I’m sorry, I just don’t find Ted Cruz to be someone I want as president. I don’t like him, and I don’t believe he is a constitutional conservative.

A constitutional conservative would have never voted for the Corker Bill, and you know it as well as I do.

It’s just too damn bad that all the people that I have voted for in the GOP over the years, including some that you have endorsed, such as your good friend Marco Rubio, whose career is now finished, turned out to be such lying weasels.

So I’m going in a different direction now.

You can support Cruz if you want to, but I don’t. He doesn’t have a path any longer, he’s not a leader, and it’s clear that he’s just another GOPE fraud, at least to me.

So stop saying “we”.

Even though I am in your audience, you don’t speak for me.

Speak for yourself.

Good, you should let him know, just as I let him know that he doesn’t speak for me.

You articulated my feelings perfectly. If FR had a “like” button, I’d be spamming it right now.

A huge field of candidates is now down to a charismatic and patriotic candidate and a conservative candidate that is a 10 on policy but is not reliably popular outside of his element.

I would be ecstatic if Cruz and Trump's positions were reversed. I see no evidence that this will be the case.

The GOPe has lost. These goofy convention strategies are nothing more than a dead fish flop.

Trump will be the nominee. Hillary will be the nominee. But she will win if the right can't come together.

If Cruz and Trump can't get together to defeat the Democrats than neither should, or will, be President.

How do you rate Ted Cruz’s vote for the Corker Bill?

Mark is unhinged tonight. He thinks Trump will give us Hillary. But his support for Bush, Fred Thompson in 08, Rick Santorum in 2012 gave us Obama.

“We” don’t HAVE a place. There aren’t enough people in America who even know what the Bill of Rights is, let alone what the benefits of decentralized power are.

I agree with you though, Cruz is just not my guy. For the reasons you mentioned, and more. He’s bright and learned, but he’s not the one who can lead conservatives. He’s extremely off-putting, to me and I want to support him because his philosophy is closest to mine.

But I don’t trust Trump for a minute.

Ugh...

Geez. I was just trying to be nice to make a point. Cruz is undoubedly a conservative but feel free to assign a Corker penalty.

They get together or they fail. And so do we.

Maybe nominating Trump will result in a Clinton win, maybe it will result in a Trump win.

I don’t think anyone can predict the future.

I really don’t put much stock in polls that say Hillary will win.

We will see what Americans choose when they are actually faced with the result of a Clinton presidency as a consequence of their vote.

If that’s what America chooses, then that’s what America chooses.

My own opinion is that I really don’t see America voting for Ted Cruz in droves.

The guy is really not very appealing.

To be perfectly honest, he makes my skin crawl sometimes.

I wasn’t being mean to you.

I just asked you how you rate that vote seeing as how you said Cruz was a 10 on policy.

I don’t think Cruz is a 10 on policy.

That single vote is a complete betrayal of America, conservatism and the Constitution.

Yup. This one's right up there with the one CNN presented tonight...64% of Republicans think Obama's SCOTUS nominee should get a hearing.

Next up: poll shows 98% of all men want to be homosexual....

Unfortunately, conservatives don’t seem to have any actual representation in government. I mean none, I can’t think of any at all.

As far as trusting Trump goes, here’s why I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He hasn’t lied to me yet.

All the others have. Cruz’s lie to me comes in the form of his explanation as to why he voted for the Corker Bill. That explanation is so much BS that it’s just infuriating.

If trump turns out to be a liar, then in the end he’s just like all the rest. but so far, he isn’t them.

I’m so disgusted with the GOP. I don’t believe anything any of them say any longer.

Yeah. The general election polls this far out are nothing but propaganda polls designed to sway the voters in the primaries.

Some several months ago were saying only Jeb Bush could beat Hillary. Some several months ago were saying only Marco Rubio could beat Hillary.

Trump is bringing in 10s of thousands in many states. They are not all just former sideliners. Many are coming right out of the Democratic party, and they admit it. Boston had some 20,000 crossovers. Other large cities have similar. Trump has the GOPelites shaking in their boots, but he also had the Dems shaking as they seem their voters leaving them.

At quick glance Trump loses to Hitlery 10:1.

Cruz loses to Hitlery 5:1, not much better either way.
