Doomsday Savior? How Paul Ryan Will Pick the Next President
Huffington Post ^ | 3/16/16 | Adam Phillips

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:38:10 PM PDT by hoagy62

It’s hidden there in plain sight, even if it hasn’t happened since the election of 1825: The people will not pick the next president, Congress will.

We wrote about this last week on Medium, and now the story is beginning to flesh out.

Politico reports that leading conservatives will meet on Thursday to plot out a third-party spoiler plan to beat presumed nominee Donald Trump.

With Marco Rubio suspending his campaign after losing the Florida primary and it is beginning to appear he will reverse his previous words to support a nominee Trump.

Because there will be a third party candidate — and their name will likely be Mitt with a Kasich or a Rubio on the same ticket.

Hillary wins if there is a conservative 3rd party candidate.
Hillary wins if there Trump is the candidate.

Sounds to me it is a no-win situation. Hopefully Trump does not flip back to his previous positions.

No it’s not too late.
The earliest state registration requirements are in summer.
(Looked it up a while ago)

It sounds like an oxymoron, but there is a grassroots GOPe legacy constituency. Those that still buy Faux news and get into the GOP party spirit.

Any idea of what that percentage is? I’m sure that as people are waking up, that number is dropping everyday.

I suspect a third-party might draw more Demonorat voters than Repubricrat voters.

I think it’s all over the map as far as state requirements.
And you have various “sore loser” laws that would affect anybody who has been on the R primary ballot.

But if the goal was to torpedo the R nominee (rather than actually win the ev total), I think that is very do-able.
It would only take getting on the ballot in a few swing states.

Well, the Blue States will stay blue. So unless Bernies decides to go Indy, Ryan would merely split the red vote.

So, someone should give Bernies folks a few million to start trouble.

The panic is everywhere.

Yes indeed. On one hand, we have fervent leftist articles insisting that Trump is completely unelectable and that the GOP must nominate someone else for its own good. And also to save democracy, because thwarting the will of the people is, after all, what democracy is all about.

These are interspersed with fervent leftist articles fantasizing about bizarre ways to prevent Trump from taking office after he's elected.

Neither line of argument shows much confidence in the Democrats' presumptive nominee.

Bottom line is they’d prefer Hillary to Trump.

Having third party candidate usually helps the Dems.

I think “President Hillary” is already baked in the cake, unless Republicans get out in droves and vote for Trump both in the primary and general election.

More likely, in a 3-way race with Romney & Hillary, Trump wins! Despite his seeming lack of a way with words, Donald Trump is far brighter than either Romney or Hillary, and judging by the Hillary barking dog ad, he has VERY clever people working for him.

The GOPe is poised to form a circular firing squad and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It is what they do.

I have some doubts about this since we’ve seen time and time again that the GOPee machine has no real balls at all. Just ask our girly President Obama since they have so much in common with him. If by chance they do try to pull off this stunt then I predict Civil War II on steroids.

remember how Ryan said he didn’t want to be the Speaker and how politicians lie and how they lie a lot? I’d say Ryan is trying to ward off a backlash from building against the establishment’s plan.

Excellent mind reading....

Past is always prologue, right...

You will never have any perspective on reality as long as you listen to the opinion writers compete for sensational ratings.

It is always smart to assume EVERYTHING from that e-rag is total nonsense. Check this out....this article claims Ryan can select anyone at all to be president, but it also says this:
“and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot”
