If Donald Trump fails to reach 1,237 delegates, and has to fight for the nomination at a contested convention, he might have a problem: some of his own delegates may be at risk of fleeing and tilting the election. WSJs Jason Bellini reports.

Could, would, should
I can see that happening if Trump is not leading in the delegate count.
The rules bind the delegates on the first vote 100%.
IIRC, it’s about 90% on the second vote
it continues downward in percent until the 5th vote when all are free.
IOW, the intent of the rules is for the frontrunner and the other candidates to strike a bargain.
And then again, they might not.
I’m sure they’ll take a page out of the Clinton playbook to ‘convince’ enough delegates to ‘vote their conscience’.
The Journal’s long been infested with open border, endless war neocons. They’re not fooling anyone.
That’s why I’ve long been an Investor’s Business Daily reader. Honest reporting, and you’ll actually make money with them.
Simple liberal projection.
Liberals believe if they say something, it essentially is true.
Liberalism is a mental disorder (credit Michael Savage for that quote).
It is fascinating that the anti Trump crowd has added betrayal to the list of cardinal virtues. I thought that one thing we all agreed on in this forum is that betrayal is a bad thing.
Interesting that the video says Cruz is trying to influence the states to select delegates loyal to him. This is where his ground game might really pay off down the road and where Trump’s bargain basement, top-down, media-driven campaign may fall apart in the end.
Some are sad.
And some are glad.
And some are very, very bad.
Why are they
Sad and glad and bad?
I do not know.
Go ask your dad.
It’s not an accurate headline. The delegates pledge no loyalty to a candidate. They have to by law vote for them on the first ballot depending on their state law. No one’s suggesting they betray that obligation. They have no obligation beyond that, so there’s nothing to betray.
My read is that the delegates tied to Trump from Texas are not being filled by Trump’s slate but rather those supporting Cruz or Perry. That guarantees they will not be for Trump on a second ballot.
He has run an ugly campaign that is built on trashing people. I agree he has gotten the most votes so far. He has about 35% of the voters support so far. It will likely be difficult to get a majority of the delegates if he doesn't win them outright.
You’re correct.
My read is that the delegates tied to Trump from Texas are not being
filled by Trumps slate but rather those supporting Cruz or Perry.

Don’t know if that’s true or not but that is definetly
where the party political aparatus comes into play.
Not a chance. I would have been a delegate if I was still in OH by convention time, but I’m moving. Still, I know some of the OH delegates. No way.
More likely the Cruz people will bail when they see ol Teddie is losing.
You really think he will? Seriously? It’s like a runnoff election where the guy with leading 35% has pi$$ed off every one else and all of their supporters by running a dirty campaign. It’s an uphill battle from there.
That is what tar and feathers are for.
