Trump fights summer trial in Trump University lawsuit
Politico ^ | March 19, 2016 | Josh Gerstein

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is fighting efforts to hold a trial in a federal class-action lawsuit over his Trump University real-estate program either just before or after the Republican National Convention in July.

Such a trial has the potential to pull Trump off the campaign trail in order to serve as a witness. And in a filing late Friday night in federal court in San Diego, lawyers for Trump said plaintiffs' lawyers are intentionally trying to schedule the trial to interfere with his presidential campaign.

"Plaintiffs’ request to set a trial date in June or August of this year ... is a transparent attempt to prejudice defendants’ ability to defend this case at trial while Mr. Trump is running for President," renowned trial attorney Dan Petrocelli wrote. "It also conflicts with plaintiffs’ acknowledgment to this Court that it would be 'foolish' to think a fair jury could be selected in the middle of the current presidential campaign."

Questions about the Trump University program have swirled around the GOP presidential hopeful recently, and seem certain to continue to do so. The lawsuit already has been a distraction in the presidential race for the real-estate developer, with fellow GOP candidates using it to attack him as a "con man" on the trail and during nationally televised debates. Last week, Petrocelli said it "will be a zoo if it goes to trial" in August.

Just being taught something does not guarantee you will use it or be savvy enough to manage a business you tried to learn. The fault often lies in the student.

When they are misled to get them to sign up in the first place then the fault lies with the institution.

I have no idea. That 98% is just the number being bantered around by Trump and his lawyers. Here is what Trump had to say for what it's worth.

You’re right. Only people who are wealthy and run large businesses should be elected President. How do you feel about Mitt Romney? How do you feel about Mark Zuckerburg? How do you feel about Steve Schmitt? How do you feel about Tom Steyer? How do you feel about George Soros? All these guys should be on your short list for President because they didn’t work at government jobs and they all have executive experience. Amarite?

...Whether guilty or not you don’t pick a candidate with this stuff hangimg over his head...

The recent BJ Clinton example demonstrates that this is just plain not true.

Any successful man will attract lawsuits.

Now it starts ! Many warned of this. As the Trumpkins are going to be tied up in knots all campaign long defending their hero unnecessatily because instead of keeping an open mind they closed it . This guy has a bunch of legal suits comming and should have never been a candidate. Whether guilty or not you don’t pick a candidate with this stuff hangimg over his head.

Are you serious? This lawsuit is as silly as people suing their law schools because they could not find a job after graduation. Lawyers like the firm bringing this suit simply look for deep pockets because most people settle (it’s cheaper) and they get paid. It really has little to do with “fraud.” It is comparable to suing Tony Robbins because you are still unmotivated after his motivational seminar.

Now they are trying to disrupt the campaign to get their settlement. A lawsuit can be filed for just about anything and many of them are silly, stupid, and count on the settlement because it is cheaper.

I’m not a “Trumpkin” either. There are plenty of things I am critical of Trump about (and Cruz), but I am not going to grab on to something like this to criticize him for. For me, it made his opponents (and the media) look weak.

That’s it - I am suing Dave Ramsey because my wife has not paid off the credit card yet.

See how this works?

Ridiculous analogy - Bloomberg has not been sued so Trump supporters should support him? You suggest he uses “high tech info” to make his investors money?

He, like Soros, uses insider information and manipulation just like the rest of the banksters on Wall Street do. Using your logic you should support Soros.

None of that matters to Trump Chumps.

Yeah, you're right. What do we know. We're just a bunch of backwoods hillbillies too stupid to vote for our betters.

Bloomberg Does not “have investors”. He sells information. No one has to buy it. He makes money by selling timely information that people want to buy. You don’t seem to understand his business at all.

See how this works?

Did Dave Ramsey use phony promises and outright lies about personally picking his faculty in order to get your wife to sign up?

No just a bunch of people who don't question a single thing he says.

He sells information to investors who act upon the information and make money. Where does that information come from? Is it all the “genius” of Bloomberg? I think not.

He is also a left-wing nanny state advocate who thinks he knows what is best for you. I am not a fan. To suggest that persons who support Trump should vote for Bloomberg because he is not being sued is ridiculous.

Sorry, that is the way I see it. I have plenty of concerns about Trump and I don’t necessarily trust him. However, an ambulance chasing class action lawsuit representing a few people who signed up for seminars does not even register on my list of concerns. That whole portion of the debate was ridiculous.

Nope, but that does not absolve my wife from her part in the bargain. Trump is a “brand” just like Dave. Dave is pretty much a one man show (I like him and have the utmost respect for him by the way). I would guess that Trump did less than 5% of the actual work on Trump University. He was the face of something that was likely put together by other people.

This is really not a big deal. If I want to criticize Trump for something I can find plenty of stuff that is far more important to me - like his history of trading in wives. That bothers me. Trump University and the spinning of lawyers wanting a settlement does not.

Were they lying on the evaluations or lying nowhere? Some even signed up for more courses. Were you there?

#35 Actually the fault lies with the Company and Trump himself fraudulently claiming his personal involvement and to produce a product they didn’t.

It’s called Fraud and that is what he is being sued for. The same type of switch they tried after the Debate in Detroit with the fake BBB document Trump gave to Megyn claiming it was faxed to them during the debate. It was not for Trump U. but rather the renamed and closed down off shoot.
