Booting all undocumented immigrants could cost at least $400 billion, conservative group says
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | March 20, 2016 | Encarnacion Pyle

"The economic and human costs would be tremendous," said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the conservative research group's president and an adviser to John McCain during his 2008 presidential campaign.
.
.
.
Last August, Politico, with help from experts at groups spanning the political spectrum, rang up the costs to carry out the key provisions of Trump's immigration plan, including mass deportation, tripling the number of immigration officers and walling off the southern border, at $166 billion at the low end.

It would be much cheaper to create a climate where they choose to self-deport.

Is this the conservative group that wants One World Government, dictatorship of the proletariat, abolition of private property and banning of Christianity? Is it that conservative group?

Can somebody tell me why self deportation, at least as part of the plan, is such a dirty word?

The cost of not booting them is unlimited and continuously growing...

That's the key point right there. And the same goes with active criminals. I read somewhere that the cost of imprisoning the average felon is something like $50,000 a year. But that felon on the loose does something like $200,000 worth of damage per year.

I might be a bit off with those numbers, but you get the point.

Money well-spent

And besides, how much to KEEP them here, including their offspring for generations?

Let’s see a study on that

I think self-deportation is key. Make it so uncomfortable for them that most will leave on their own.

You are right, active enforcement would convince most it was better to leave voluntarily. Deportees are barred from re-entry for a time. If they leave on their own they can apply for entry like they should have in the first place.

You don’t have to deport them, just make it a felony to hire any illegal.

Quit allowing them access to our countries benefits progarms and giving corporations special incentives to hire them, and most of them will self-deport.

It won't cost anything at all.

And what is the cost of NOT booting all undocumented immigrants ?

What has the cost to the US been over the past 30 years of keeping undocumented immigrants within our borders, in our schools our hospitals, our prisons, our streets?

LET THOSE WHO EMPLOYER HARBOR ILLEGALS PAY FOR IT !!!

Sugar Ant low cost concept .... fine employers 10,000$ a person when they are caught employing illegals or those using expired work visas and even colleges with expired student visas....... take jobs off the table and they will leave, go to deportation jail, or be killed as the criminals they are if they go violent.

Zero cost to the tax payer if foreign aid is cut off to the nations that promote such illegal entry into these united states.

My opinion.....

Not to propose such a thing, but if the press advertised how illegal immigrants were taken out and slaughtered, nobody would have to spend anything to have them move back home. They would be moving without any other incentive than to keep alive, and they would be moving as quickly as they could.

I suspect there is a happy medium somewhere between these 2 extremes, where it is in their best interest to move back out of the country as quickly as they can in an orderly fashion.

Juan & Maria walk across the southern border into the US. Maria is 9 months pregnant. They go to the nearest hospital for a free birthing experience. Then welfare, WIC, food stamps, free medical care for their anchor baby for the next 18 years.

Juan & Maria get jobs, but don’t earn enough to pay taxes. They have four more free birthing experiences and all the freebies associated. Oh, I almost forgot the many $thousands per year in EIC payments that are pure welfare.

I don’t care what it costs to boot them out.
