Cruz: Trump's attack on my wife shows his character
Politico ^ | March 23, 2016 | Eliza Collins

Posted on 03/23/2016 5:57:36 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Ted Cruz attacked Donald Trump’s character for threatening his wife on Tuesday and blamed his opponent's attack on “a very bad night” in Utah.

“If Donald wants to get in a character fight he's better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league,” Cruz said on CNN’s “New Day,” responding to a late-night tweet from Trump warning, "Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”

The attack reveals a lot about Trump's character, Cruz said. "That should be beneath Donald," he said. "The reason he's doing that is because he had a very bad night last night. He got clobbered in Utah."

Trump’s tweet — which began with “Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad" — is an apparent reference to an online ad by anti-Trump super PAC Make America Awesome, which used a photo of Trump’s wife Melania posing nude in British GQ in 2000 in an attempt to sway conservative Mormon voters.

Cruz responded via Twitter shortly after: "Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”

On CNN, host Chris Cuomo asked the Texas senator if engaging with Trump was a good idea.

"The tweet he was unhappy about was not even a super PAC supporting me. It is an independent group. I don’t know them,” Cruz said. "When Donald gets scared, when he gets angry, when he gets threatened ... So last night Donald threatened my wife, he went directly after my wife."

Cruz also ratcheted up his pressure on John Kasich, who fared poorly in Tuesday's contests, to get out of the race, repeatedly calling the Ohio governor a “spoiler.”

He did. FFS how many times do people have to post what he said about the PAC and the pic before you get it?

I merely reply to what is said to me.

People give intelligent responses...they get intelligent responses.

People want to act like most of the Trump supporters are doing in this thread...then they get from me exactly what they deserve.

I’ve been here too long to tolerate the childish antics from trolls and recent members of this website who won’t be here after the election is over to put up with or ignore their stupidity.

Trump appeared to be referring to a Facebook advertisement targeted to Mormons...

God, Republicans are living in the 1800's. There is no such thing as a "targeted advertisement" any longer. It's like the braintrust thinks the internet doesn't exist or that people aren't checking twitter on their phones at every spare down-time moment.

That ad no doubt played well in Mormon Utah. But now it must be defended in states where people aren't so culturally isolated. How's that ad going to work in New York? California? Even Wisconsin?

“When you show me anybody officially tied to Trump or working for him that has called for “blacklists, gulags, hunting down of Cruz supporters” then you will have an argument.”

Aha, got it. Trump needs to avow insane statements when they are made by someone OFFICIALLY tied to him. However, Cruz MUST disavow the actions by a meaningless PAC that is in business solely to target Trump.

Got it. For Trump is must be a campaign OFFICIAL. For Cruz, it can be ANYONE. Thanks for the confirmation of my point.

Did you go look at the PAC’s public information? Their sole mission is to TARGET Trump. Period.

Did you consider the Swift Boat Vets to be “Pro Bush” or did you take them at their word that they were “Anti Kerry?”

Thank you for this link. I read the information and the money quote is here:

“Liz Mair, founder of Make America Awesome, said the point of the campaign is to rally voters around Ted Cruz, and she expects the ads to reach 10,000 Mormon voters per day.”

In other words, yes they are targeting Trump’s opposition voters, specifically mormons. That tells me that they are TARGETING Trump for Defeat. If Rubio were the next leading candidate, they would have targeted Rubio’s voters, same with any other candidate.

The fact that you selectively edited the phrase in your link is telling.

Haha wow this thread is probably going to blow up real good with this post! You just re-posted virtually every issue that's been debated right here on FR for the last 6 months!

Don't get me wrong I'm a Cruz man. I think some of those issues still have merit. Not all though. I don't have any desire to re-debate any of them though.

About the issue of this thread. It is indeed technically correct that the SuperPAC that out out the ad in question has no legal ties to Cruz, and also, it's undeniably correct that Cruz has disavowed/disowned this ad.

The point the Trump supporters are making is though, if I may say in the hopes it will clear things up (probably not) is that Cruz hasn't CONDEMNED the ad. "Disavowing/disowning" is not the same thing as "condemning".

I find it deliciously ironic though that the same man, who's favorite tactic early on in the race, was to make outrageous claims by saying something like "people are saying...I'm not saying it but people are saying..", that same man is now angry at Ted Cruz for essentially the same tactic.

Like I've said before what comes around goes around, those who live by the sword die by the sword and all related sayings. Support a candidate who gets in the mud don't be shocked when some mud gets slung back.

Just sayin'. :-)

*sigh*...ok here we go again...

Neither of those news articles quote Ted Cruz as denouncing the ad.

He just says that it's not his.

Which is not denouncing, or condemning. Want me to spell the word reeeeaaalll slow so you can get the meaning, txradioguy?

Cruz has neither condemned nor denounced the ad.

Which means that he "approves this message", which has his name all over it.

Better install some vents there. Even enough its owner claims it's big, it's a false claim, and you'll run low on oxygen only after a few inhalations. :)

No they don’t.

Did the Swift Boat Vets PAC work for GW Bush or were they ANTI KERRY?

Considering that you were dim enough to include the comment in your "crybaby" to the mods, I would say it still stands.

I can understand the sentiment, considering your obtuseness about the liar Cruz not denouncing or condemning the vile ad which supports Cruz by name.

Cruz OBVIOUSLY "approves this message".

Heidi seems to have her own aspirations. Never having met the woman, know nothing about her, but she comes across much like Hillary in Bill’s early years. JMHO. The pic shown of Trumps wife could hardly be called porn, it was a photo, much like the photo shown of Ms Kelly of FOX FAME. That Cruz campaign used the attic was, shows he has lived down to expectations. An eye for an eye. He attcks Trumps wife Trump attacks Ted, daring to pursue the fight.
