Cruz: Trump's attack on my wife shows his character
Politico ^ | March 23, 2016 | Eliza Collins

Ted Cruz attacked Donald Trump’s character for threatening his wife on Tuesday and blamed his opponent's attack on “a very bad night” in Utah.

“If Donald wants to get in a character fight he's better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league,” Cruz said on CNN’s “New Day,” responding to a late-night tweet from Trump warning, "Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”

The attack reveals a lot about Trump's character, Cruz said. "That should be beneath Donald," he said. "The reason he's doing that is because he had a very bad night last night. He got clobbered in Utah."

Trump’s tweet — which began with “Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad" — is an apparent reference to an online ad by anti-Trump super PAC Make America Awesome, which used a photo of Trump’s wife Melania posing nude in British GQ in 2000 in an attempt to sway conservative Mormon voters.

Cruz responded via Twitter shortly after: "Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”

On CNN, host Chris Cuomo asked the Texas senator if engaging with Trump was a good idea.

"The tweet he was unhappy about was not even a super PAC supporting me. It is an independent group. I don’t know them,” Cruz said. "When Donald gets scared, when he gets angry, when he gets threatened ... So last night Donald threatened my wife, he went directly after my wife."

Cruz also ratcheted up his pressure on John Kasich, who fared poorly in Tuesday's contests, to get out of the race, repeatedly calling the Ohio governor a “spoiler.”

Jethro Bush just endorsed Ted.

That tells me everything I need to know about HIS character.

Cruz didn’t attack anyone’s wife. His campaign had nothing to do with that. Not that it matters to most Trumpbots.

CRUZ STARTED IT by allowing the attack on Trump’s wife.

Sorry Cruz, Trump plays by DIFFERENT RULES.

(and PLEASE don’t try to say that Cruz didn’t approve the attack on Trump - if he didn’t approve the attack, Cruz would be joining with Trump to STOP this crap...but he’s not)

Then if his camp didn’t support the tweet, why didn’t he condemn it? Additionally, how is a caution against slut-shaming Trump’s wife with a “dish the dirt on her” comment a “trashing of Heidi?” Seems to me dirt would have to have been flung first.

This is so ridiculous.

Cruz ran an ad (he didn’t personally, but an ad ran for Cruz) which was against Mrs. Trump.

Trump responded, and I agree with him. That ad was completely wrong. Even if Cruz did not personally run it, he did not disclaim it either, and it ran (for) him.

Cruz is wrong here. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

So Cruz and his team tried to bait Trump, then Trump rightly defended his wife, and Cruz comes out with this!

Cruz is a nasty piece of work!

Utah wasn’t even counted by then.

How can Kasich play spoiler when Trump wins by 100,000 votes amongst early voters?

I’m not understanding the numbers coming out of Utah. They showed something like 118,000 for Cruz, and around 20,000 each for Trump and Kasich. How many registered Republicans are in that state? Was the non-participation rate that high? Something’s not right.

“Cruz didn’t attack anyone’s wife. His campaign had nothing to do with that. Not that it matters to most Trumpbots.”

Sorry, NO ONE BELIEVE THAT. Cruz almost certainly did APPROVE the attack - everyone knows that Superpacs COORDINATE before doing anything like this, legally or not.

Now Cruz better END IT, or his wife’s ‘issues’ will be out there, FOR ALL TO SEE.

So someone does an ad against Trump, and it’s Cruz’s fault?

Look everybody. Ted and the Tedomites already insisting it’s okay when they do it, but wrong when there is retaliation.

Cruz didn’t disavow the attack on Trump’s wife. Is Cruz okay with a PAC supporting him to attack Trump’s wife in this way?

Trump was expected to disavow the KKK which he did dozens of times. Cruz should disavow a PAC supporting him attacking another candidate’s family in this way.

Also, we know Donald’s history well. I am not sure we do Ted’s.

That’s simply not true. Cruz did not attack Trump’s wife.

“I will spill the beans on your wife” = “attack”

I guess Ted needs a “safe space” from Trump’s micro aggressions after CruzPAC ran an ad calling Trump’s wife a slut and Trump dared to respond.

Poor guy.
