9/11: What Would Trump Do?
POLITICO Magazine ^ | March 31, 2016

Posted on 04/01/2016 6:44:08 AM PDT by McGruff

It’s the totally unthinkable question that Americans find themselves confronting this week: What would President Donald Trump do in a genuine national crisis?

After a series of overseas terror attacks and some startling statements about nuclear weapons and torture, the world’s attention has turned to Trump’s foreign policy—an area where he has few advisers, no experience and a tendency to fire off answers and deal with the fallout later. The reality of a Trump candidacy has begun to set in: If Trump is elected and a major national crisis hits, he’ll be the one with his hands on the button. He’ll be at the head of the table in the Situation Room. His decisions would steer America’s immediate response and could set the course of American policy for years.

What’s hard to project with a normal politician is nearly impossible to guess with Trump. He has no foreign policy or public service experience, which means there’s no official record to consult, and his public statements, while extreme, have been vague. The saber-rattling statements that excite his supporters also suggest he has disregard for linchpins of the global order like NATO, the Geneva Conventions and the hard-won global nuclear-weapons limits

Weren’t those the main 9/11 countries?

Yes. And you see no chance of Americans being rounded up and executed by those barbarians after we bomb them?

Or, you think no other Arabic/Muslim countries will coalesce into a united front against the US? It would be an all out shooting war...and worse.

No, they’re all insignificant except for Egypt.

They have no power projection capability, and having been there, it’s harder than heck to get in and they’re anxious for you to leave.

I went on Facebook last night to catch up on some Messages I received. Not a big Facebook user, just check it from time to time to keep in touch with some people.

I ran into some Comments from People I used to work who I “friended” bashing Trump for wanting to go after ISIS.

Parachute him him, leave him there, blah, blah, blah. Then I come across some picture of an Obese Woman drinking a Margarita captioned as a Trump Supporter who is saying Trump will get those Muslims who want to kill me. Really silly stuff.

Well, I made a few Comments including “where is the picture of the Dead in Brussels, Paris and of those 60 Christian Women and Children Murdered by ISIS?

These people Post crap from the “forwardprogressive” Website and apparently love Bernie. One Woman in particular, worked with me in Corporate Management.

I was shocked to say the least. Faceboook is a Sewer and I await being “unfriended” by a few people who I thought were rational People. My mistake.

Trump would do what’s best for America—and woe to our enemies! No one would get a pass (like Saudi Arabia got for 9-11) and then he would rally the nation with an Oval Office speech on TV—then go to Congress for a declaration of war and special war powers. Like winston Churchill—he sees the enemy as he is not though rose colored glasses. People will say—we are lucky to have him in the White House.

I only have family on my Facebook so it’s not so bad. I haven’t met my new niece yet (she’s 3 now) but I’ve watched her grow up on Facebook. My Brother In Law and his wife are hopeless Bernie supporters so I ignore some posts.

Ask them if Bernie Wins, when can you move into their House?

Do they have a nicer Car than you do? If so, trade them for yours because it’s only fair.

I guess they are part of the 98%, whatever that means.

Kill the Rich and take their stuff!

Bolsheviks for Bernie 2016!

rational people are paying the bills for the Terrorists—they will cut funding if they believe President Trump might well include them in any retrobution moves. Trump would put the USA on a war footing—meet with Putin and act! The key to the Middle East in in Moscow and Isreal.

Delong, I should have been more precise and clear as to what a strong willed, bold and determined President can protect us from. Obviously, our new President must profess and make clear that the rule of law will be adhered to.

Soft targets first:

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent burglars from breaking into 10 homes in a neighborhood killing four and taking 2 hostages? Obviously no.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent gang members from breaking into stores and businesses building? No, of course not.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent a guy who is unstable from slamming his car into a crowd of people, killing 20? Obviously no.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent unstable men from blowing up homeade bombs in front of buildings in Oklahoma City. Obviously not.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent three radical Muslims from carrying bombs into a building in downtown Chicago and try to blow it up. No, of course not.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent two guys from sneaking across our Southern border with Mexico, arrive in Tucson and rob a dozen banks in two days. No,obviously not.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent homegrown radical Muslims from going to a work place in San Diego and spray down 40 folks with their uzi's. No, of course he can't.

Can a President who projects an image of being strong willed, bold and determined prevent "....various attacks made in much smaller fashion, like the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino, Fort Hood, recruiting stations and others?" - - Of course not.

Our newly minted President should immediately hold a press conference with all foreign dignitaries invited.
After everyone from these154 countries are seated and paying close attention our next President should speak out (almost sternly) and make it quite clear to all of these heads of state that if it is discovered that a foreign country is backing terrorism by their citizenry against the United States then the United States will unleash tactical nuclear weapons upon that country without warning and with disregard to any and all occupants in their borders. Also, word should be passed on to Isis to immediately lay down their weapons or expect to receive one or more tactial nukes. When an astute U S President speaks in these stern terms everyone in earshot will take heed ...and threats to our USA from beyond our shores will subside.

This sounds Barry Goldwaterish, but it's all over the news that there could be a nuke that goes off in one of our cities or ports.
What we must not have is a delusional democrat win the high office in November. Hillary or Barney are not concerned with illegal immigration and there won't be any kind of wall and they'd both let allow in thousands of illegals and radical Muslims. Now is not the time to allow in more islamic Muslims. It's not time to have a democrat dove in our WH with whimpy minions holding flowers and singing kumbiya.
...suggestion box is open

Here's where you lost a wheel off your cart DeLong. Below, you're mentioning events that happened on our shores. Go back and review again and you'll realize that the whole premise of my posts refers to how to counter terrorism overseas. - - Not "smaller fashion" events.

Perhaps you have forgotten 9/11 already? The attack on the World Trade Center in 93? The various attacks made in much smaller fashion, like the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino, Fort Hood, recruiting stations and others?

DeLong, if you were mislead my the way I wrote my posts, then I pardon you.

...”Trump would do what’s best for America”...

NO......He will do what's best for Trump always and foremost...and you would do well understanding his personality and temperament....otherwise when he does act against what you want,(and he most certainly will), it won't blindside you.

Trump reminds me of myself - the self I wish I’d be.

Loves his country - loves his friends - and loves his family.

I love his passion - love his strength - love his energy

Especially when he pulls no punches, unequivocally.

Churchill strong, that chin of his - for all the world to see

If - BIG IF - he pulls this off, how blessed we all will be.

You’ll see!

I don't remember Ronald Reagan doing or saying anything like that. Perhaps just the press saying it, to scare the American populace from voting for him, that made them react the way they did. Can't really say for sure.

But then perhaps you have forgotten Beirut? I'm just unclear I guess which terrorist attacks you are claiming would be eliminated.

At any rate, I think he has pretty much said what he needs to say, and that is nothing is off the table as far as he is concerned. You neither want to telegraph to the enemy exactly what you would or wouldn't do, but instead make them wonder what it is you would do.

I also think that saying he would use nuclear weapons might create a bigger problem. They may react with a first strike attack fearing they will definitely be attacked, so they have nothing to lose.

I guess I prefer the approach of letting others do the talking, but to a different audience, of what a madman Trump is, rather than Trump saying it himself. Let them guess as to what Trump might do. Then when action is necessary make it swift and brutal. Then they will be less inclined to stir up that hornets nest again. Talk can easily be dismissed, action not as much. Does that make sense?

Then again, perhaps your plan is the perfect plan. Submit it to Trump. You don't need my blessing for sure.
