Well, no more than rejecting the will of the people in the 2000 presidential election.

Not quite. The electoral college is fairly straightforward and is still won by collecting actual votes from people who stand in line to vote. It simply forces candidates to get broad geographic appeal. The rules for the Republican presidential primary vary from state to state, someone who wins the actual vote count in one state can apparently lose the delegate battle.

It really appears as though the delegate battle is won by playing games of shadow politics.

I suppose we will be stuck with the delegate count as it is for this election. Going forward, the rules need to be changed.

I didn’t live through it but it’s looking more like 1964 to me.

A little similar but no Republican could have won in 1964 due to the Kennedy assassination and many on the right considered LBJ to be a "conservative" enough candidate.

The first election that I was old enough to vote in was 1976 and I had voted for Reagan in the primary and argued with my Dad who was a Ford guy. I thought Reagan might win the nomination since it was a pretty clear split of delegates with the edge to Ford. I was pretty bummed out after Ford was nominated but dear old Dad gave me some consolation that proved to be very true. He said they did Reagan a favor by not nominating him because no Republican had a chance in the general election because of Watergate and that if the Dems nominated someone outside of DC with perceived high morals they would win handily.

As long as vestiges of state sovereignty remain, this is how it is going to be.

I’ll be interested to see the Constitutional amendment proposed.

The GOPe, Ted Cruz included, are just fine with the Dems doing the dirty work installing the social welfare state and destroying our sovereignty with TPP. That’s what the big donors want and that is all the rotten GOP cares about now.

Oh, we’re awake - we just aren’t going to support a guy who has given thousands of dollars to Hillary, $100,000 to her and Bill’s corrupt foundation, is a total crony capitalist, has no ideological conservative core (mostly because he has never been and it not now a conservative), preaches much of the same protectionist nonsense that Bernie Sanders says, etc, etc, etc.

No thanks on Trump. I am confident if he loses on the first ballot, Cruz will win on the 2nd or 3rd.

Once upon a time if Trump were close I would have said let him have it, but after the sleaze and slime his campaign and supporters have been responsible for, no. If Trump is even 1 delegate short then that is just too bad - we go to the 2nd and maybe 3rd ballots where Cruz will win it.

preaches the same protectionist nonsense...

You're taking off your mask here. Jobs in the US for US workers is central to saving the US as an independent nation and reversing the path to destruction we're on.

That issue is CENTRAL to the disgust most US citizens feel

Oh, and Cruz can’t win anything. Why? He’ll never get the mad as *ell voters who aren’t tied to an ideology. Many of those Sanders voters would go to Trump as a way to clear out the garbage in DC.

Understand this! Paul Ryan is OWNED and was recruited into DC politics by one CESAR CONDA, immigration lawyer, powerhouse in DC...he is also responsible for and chief of staff to MARCO RUBIO...this is ALL about amnesty and TPPtype trade deals!

No, there is no mask. I don’t support protectionist policies and neither do actual conservatives.

The way to remain competitive is to cut taxes, cut regulation, weaken organized labor, make America the most attractive place to do business.

The Trump/Sanders way is precisely the kind of thinking that left Americans choosing from the big 3 automakers that had begun churning out trash in the 60’s and 70’s. It wasn’t until they faced competition that they actually started making decent cars that didn’t go right into the shop for repairs 10 minutes after purchase. Oh the labor unions and protectionists fought that competition with tooth and nail, and Trump takes the side that would STILL have us driving garbage due to lack of competition.

So you support the destruction of the middle class? You really aren’t and never have been on the side of those for whom Trump resonates. The interesting thing, as it turns out, either was Cruz. So why did he pretend he was?

Sadly, I guarantee that there is not one of the vocal Cruz supporters on FR who could tell you what TPA is and what it does.

I support making America competitive, which in a globalized economy is the ONLY long term solution.

Pie in the Sky “we’ll make better deals” isn’t gonna get us anywhere.

Cut corporate taxes, reduce regulation, weaken unions, eliminate self destructive things like minimum wages, etc, etc. Those things make us more competitive.

Trump is selling you a fairy tale. Further, for the most part he can’t even do what he claims as he would need Congress to go along to break and make new treaties. Trump is a snake oil salesmen, a confidence man, just telling you what you want to hear.

John Thune has a B rating from Numbers usa in theonly issue that really matters. If we lose there we lose everywhere.

You campaign on your pro-corporate globalist anti-US principles, and the Republican Party won’t win anything.

Only because he hasn’t been paid the price necessary to get him to vote for amnesty. That’s the only reason. He’s for sale and his Monsanto voting record screams that loud and clear.

I could care less about Monsanto if we do not win the amnesty thing everything is lost and there are only a few viable people who have good records on this and Thune is one of only two.
