The reason the words “natural born citizen” were put there is because the Founders did not want ANY KIND OF NATURALIZED CITIZEN TO BE PRESIDENT!! Even citizens naturalized by some act of Congress without a formal process. It is that simple. If both your parents weren’t American Citizens, the you weren’t a natural born citizen.
Now, Liberals have perverted the Constitution to the point where people who call themselves “conservatives” have begun to ignore the plan language of the Constitution.

I had copied and pasted because I had not heard about this...altho I think there were some threads about it in the past few days.
Simple answer - the poster is misrepresenting the law. The law does not say the parent had to be living in the US in the year immediately prior to the birth. It says that the parent had to have lived in the US for at least a year at some point prior to the birth.
So for example, the child of a US diplomat that was born in England is a US citizen. But if she continues to live in England, gets married and has a child without ever returning to the US for at least a year, her child would not automatically be a citizen at birth.
Obviously, since Ted's mother was born and raised in the US, went to college in the US, met and married Ted's father in the US, she meets the qualification specified here.
It is amazing that Trumpkins choose to be so willingly ignorant. They keep hollering about Cruz “sealing his records” as if there were some conspiracy. All it takes is about 2 minutes of searching on the Internet to discover that the type of records discussed here are automatically sealed and not subject to FOIA disclosure for EVERYONE - primarily because much of the data in the records could be used for identity theft.

...You might notice that there were 2 types of citizens mentioned.
Two types before there was ever a 'naturalized citizen' as defined by the Congress.
Of it is a challenge for many to read simple English. More so when they are blinded by their own opinion or agenda.

Yes. At the time the Constitution was adopted, there were not ‘natural born citizens’ because everybody’s parents had been British Subjects. The clause “or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution” was added to cover this situation. If you look back at the “Law of Nations” that was commonly recognized at the time, the definition of NBC is “both parents are citizens”.
Look, Mike Lee is every bit as conservative as Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee is an undisputed natural born citizen. Why do you want to complicate things by supporting a question mark?

Most likely is because she renounced her American citizenship when she was in Canada. Just before Ted was born.
That would mean that neither ted nor his parents were American citizens.
