Trump refuses to rule out third-party run if he doesn’t land GOP nomination

Donald Trump continued his war with party bosses Sunday, once again saying that he wouldn’t rule out a third-party run if he failed to secure the GOP nomination and demanding that rival John Kasich drop out of the race.

“We’re going to have to see how I was treated. I’m going to have to see how I was treated. Very simple,” Trump said on “Fox News Sunday” when asked if he would categorically rule out running as a third-party independent candidate if he failed to win his party’s nomination. “It’s not a question of win or lose. It’s a question of treatment. I want to be treated fair.”

The comments came just days after Trump, Kasich and Ted Cruz backed out of pledges to support the GOP’s eventual nominee. Following the walk-backs, Trump met privately with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in an apparent effort to smooth things over, but on Sunday, the hot-and-cold relationship appeared on the verge of fracturing once again.

“Those kinds of comments, I think, have consequences,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week” of Trump’s latest remarks. “When you make those kinds of comments, and you want people to fall in line for you, it makes it more difficult.”

In yet another interview, Priebus admitted he wasn’t sure whether he felt the former businessman was the party’s best candidate.

“I don’t know,” Priebus said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Listen, I don’t worry about who is the strongest candidate.”

Further suggesting Trump was undeterred by the criticism were demands he made during a rally in Wisconsin — whose pivotal primary on Tuesday will put for up grabs another 96 delegates — that Kasich drop out of the GOP race.

At this point, the RNC probably realizes that a Trump nomination would destroy the party from top to bottom, causing them to lose the House, Senate and state and local races as well. So they might consider it less damaging to have Trump run as a 3rd party candidate - at least then the party wouldn't be associated with his stupid comments and constantly changing positions, and they might at least be able to retain the House and the Senate.

Before you threaten to kill the hostage, you probably should be sure that they aren't willing to let you.

Considering the conspirators in the Republican National Committee I think trump is correct not to trust them...at all. But maybe he should be more careful and statesmanlike in his public (accusatory) pronouncements.

you still have no answered.

You want Trump to step out and I asked you now a couple of times why should the guy who is winning in anything step out to let the first place loser in?

Can you not answer that seeing as you keep spouting utter B/S like Trump should drop out.

I absolutely disagree.

Fairness is simply a word for integrity.

He’s not been treated with integrity by the establishment.

But, it doesn’t matter to me what others think. I will support a 3rd party; this nation NEEDS a third party.

“I don’t know,” Priebus said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Listen, I don’t worry about who is the strongest candidate.”

Why start now, Rancid Penis? The GOPe didn't worry about having the strongest candidate in 2012, 2008, 1996?

WHY START NOW?

He’s running a cheap campaign. He’s to cheap to buy a ground game that could help him win the upcoming party runoff. He isn’t going there. He only got in this to knock Bush out. He’s done that. He’ll spend his time doing all the talk shows and calling everyone names after he loses in the runoff. And, he’ll love it because he can record them and watch himself back over and over.

Trump has dished it out as good as he got. He is a nasty, spiteful piece of work. For the others, it seems to be just politics. But he will hold grudges his whole life and spend a lot of time retaliating, rather than putting the past behind him.

My purpose in supporting him would be indeed to kill the republican party...at a minimum to kill it as it currently exists.

“Trump, Kasich and Ted Cruz backed out of pledges to support the GOP’s eventual nominee”

Wasn’t that because of the hint that a person other than those three might be selected?

I don’t think that’s his meaning. “Being treated fairly” is not the same as “the process has integrity.” If he meant the latter, he would abide by the rules and stop making threats.

As I keep pointing out, Trump is leading.

He is leading in the Northeast states and in the Pacific states.

With wins in those states, he’ll have the 1237.

"Donald Trump continued his war with party bosses Sunday, once again saying that he wouldn’t rule out a third-party run if he failed to secure the GOP nomination and demanding that rival John Kasich drop out of the race."

Well of course! Negotiating 101. Who but an idiot or John Kerry (I repeat myself) ever begins a negotiation with his best possible offer up front? If the eGOP steals the nomination from Trump, they don't need a 3rd party candidate to lose. They've already lost, and they can blame themselves.

Trump bids fair to upset a lot of traditional GOP applecarts.
