IS THE CRUZ CAMPAIGN MORAL?
WND ^ | 4/4/2016 | David Kupelian

Posted on 04/04/2016 8:10:36 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Here’s a simple question that desperately needs an answer.

Donald Trump won the Arizona primary in a landslide, 47.1 percent to Ted Cruz’s 24.9 percent, giving the GOP front-runner all 58 of that winner-take-all state’s delegates.

Right now, the Cruz campaign is engaged in a “furious” on-the-ground campaign in Arizona – and in other states won by Trump, including Louisiana, Georgia and Tennessee – to convert Trump delegates into Cruz delegates on a second ballot, should there be a contested GOP convention this summer.

The question is: Is this moral?

Trump calls it “crooked as hell.” But let’s back up a little.

As the Washington Examiner reported Monday, in a story headlined “Cruz snaring Trump’s Arizona delegates” and posted in the lead position of the Drudge Report:

Sen. Ted Cruz is out-hustling Donald Trump and looks set to ensure many Arizona delegates will defect to him in a convention floor fight.

The Texas senator, who ever since Iowa has played a stealthy ground game in contrast to Trump’s chaotic populism, is taking steps to snatch the Republican presidential nomination from The Donald at the convention in July.

The New York businessman easily won last month’s Arizona primary taking 47 percent to Cruz’s 25 percent, scooping up all 58 of the state’s delegates. That’s nearly 5 percent of the 1,237 Trump needs for the nomination, and they’re tied to him on the first ballot.

But Cruz, exploiting deep opposition to Trump among grass-roots Republicans, has been far more active in Arizona than Trump, insiders say. He’s recruiting candidates for the available 55 delegate slots, that along with the other three delegate positions filled by party leaders, would be allowed to vote for him in a multi-ballot contested convention.

Of course there were plenty of posts explaining it.

He is rejecting the spirit of the nominating process!

He isn't even close to Trump in delegates, so running to the convention is just an attempt to bypass the will of the overwhelming amount of GOP voters.

I thought Cruz came out for ‘fair trade’, that is raising tariff’s in retaliation to nations raising their’s against us.

So true.

Trump came on the scene... already a big reality show star and flamboyant millionaire who was a good object for gossip about all his ladies.

The media immediately leaped to cover every word he said..and it is estimated he got millions in free publicity, while bragging about not taking money for his campaign.

He created an early spurt of excitement because it was refreshing to hear someone come out with delightful hyperbole about doing all the things we wanted someone to do ... i.e. get rid of illegals, defeat Isis, build a wall and so on.

Those of us who didn’t pledge our hearts and souls to him began to see big cracks in the Trump machine.

We began to realize that he wasn’t a great businessman at all... he simply inherited money and played with it.

That he had no clear plan or understanding about how to accomplish all the promises and that we couldn’t trust him to even try.

We looked at his record and saw that all his positions up until a few years ago were closely aligned with democrats.

And his early victories reflected the early enthusiasm.

Sorry, trumpers that early enthusiasm is fading as the light shines on the real Donald Trump.

Comes off as a slick lawyer.

Can you imagine as an example, if it were to come to AZ - who overwhelmingly voted for Trump, that some AZ delegate or super delegate voted for Cruz on the 2nd round in Cleaveland, whether on live TV or behind the scenes, and then it was announced that Cruz won AZ on the 2nd round? Think about that for a second. Does anyone in the Cruz world have any common sense and understand the power of optics? Then when the RNC announces that Cruz won AZ on the 2nd round, all the new feeds show a LIVE split screen with thousands of people in Arizona protesting about what is going on in Cleaveland? Stealing the nomination away from Trump? Think about a LIVE television split screen of Trump protesters in state after state where Cruz has cut a back room deal to win on the 2nd round.

It's about he optics and Cruz will lose on his so called 'brilliant' back door strategy in state after state. After all the hard work Trump supporters put into ensuring their candidate won the primary, are they going to have to start holding rallies to denounce Cruz if he keeps this up? We want to save our energy for Hillary Clinton, not some carport bagger who is cutting back room deals in states he lost. Cruz is getting such bad advice, but what is is doing is showing his true colors.

I disagree. The majority of Cruz supporters have a baseline of conservative principle. They then compare and contrast candidates based on that matrix. I don’t see a lot of Cruz supporters saying that they don’t prefer Trump so they are voting for Cruz. Their selection is affirmative based on principle.

Contrast that with a Trump supporter. Their support is based on two things: emotional rhetoric and what they perceive to be success in the private sector that will transfer over to the public.

Ask yourself this question: where has the vaunted cross-over Reagan democrats been for the last 30 years? I’m supposed to believe that no Republican has advocated policies beneficial to them in all that time? That it required Trump to bring them back? Even if that’s the case it is more damning because it more than suggests that their adherence to principle is based solely on the personality of the candidate and the rhetoric he or she espouses.

And when Trump is not the nominee, or is elected and serves his term what happens to them? Do they go back to their old ways? I suspect that is the case. That’s why Trump supporters are a fickle bunch and I certainly would not want to entrust the future of this country to such individuals.

Where is the principle and conservatism in Cruz’s campaign? There is none. Attacking Trump on the KKK nonsense, attacking Trump when violent communists attacked us in Chicago, attacking Trump when terrorists hit Brussels, speculating on his taxes, etc., etc. Nothing principled or conservative about any of that. Period.

Trump gained traction because of issues. You Cruzers never cared to give him credit for that. Where was Ted when Kate was bleeding out on a street in San Francisco? Having a cocktail with Heidi on a roof top bar in Georgetown? THAT is why Trumpers are loyal to him. He spoke up on unfair trade and criminal aliens when NOBODY in DC would. Cruz has spent the entire campaign parroting Trump on issue after issue. Latest being “fair trade”. LOL.

Trump is the best sunshine conservatives have ever had. I always thought the uniparty stuff was tin foil hat stuff. Yet low and behold a few weeks ago we had a bunch of beltway GOPers meeting in secret with rich DEMOCRATS in the middle of a heated primary season. If that isn’t UNIPARTY, nothing is. And sadly Ted Cruz is right in the middle of it scheming his way to the nom. Ted Cruz is better than this. Very disappointing. Whatever happens with Trump, the GOP will never be the same again. Anybody conservative paying attention not attached to Cruz is done with the GOP. Period.

Cruz is showing his *highly moral and deeply religious nature*.

Of course it is not moral. He makes me want to throw up. I can’t stand to look at him.

No, our support for Trump is because he has identified the crucial problems facing this nation, open borders, and bad trade deals.

These are the two issues that the elites have agreed to agree on and pretend there are two different political Parties.

Yes, exactly, Cruz may be able to stop Trump from getting the number necessary and then steal the nomination, but he would have lost the war in the general election.

And set himself up for a nasty, nasty fight in 2018 to keep his Senate seat. Cruz must thrive on this stuff. No wonder everybody hates him.

The problem is that you have no sense of humor. Trump is extremely consistent but he has not been a politician all his life. Videos 20 years ago show him saying the same things about the economy, treaties and our relationships with Nations. His position statements are very thorough and intelligently reasoned. He is a man with nuance and flair and he is tweaking and gently teasing in many of his appearances, exaggerating slightly for effect, playing with his audience.

The important things about him never change; he loves our Nation, our Vets, our people and passionately wants to undo the damage that has been done. When someone is as dismissive and derogatory as you are to Trump it is clear that you have not really looked at the big picture but came to the table ready to find fault, seized upon something that had been twisted, taken out of context or was occasionally a mistake or bad luck.

Everyone of us has things that could be said about us to our detriment by someone who wanted to defeat us. Trump has enormous spirit, drive and talent and can stand outside the special interests. That makes him unique in his ability to take on the Uniparty and swing control back to the States and the people. Anyone can talk a good game but all of the others can only talk because they are bought and sold.
