Four Reasons Republicans Should Rejoice at Cruz Beating Trump
PJ Media ^ | April 8, 2016 | T. Elliot Gaiser

When a political party picks one candidate over another, the party signals to the broader electorate what it represents. If the Republican Party nominates Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, it will represent one of the greatest practical and moral victories in the Republican Party’s noble history.

Cruz’s enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates – 50 percent plus one of the 2,472 total delegates to the convention – to cinch the nomination on the first ballot. Combined with savvy delegate recruitment and a mounting string of endorsements, Cruz is setting himself up as the most likely nominee in a contested convention.

While many Trump supporters might decry this outcome under the stated rules of the party as the “establishment” countermanding the voters, this broad theme oversimplifies. Both Trump and Cruz exist outside the “establishment." The more interesting question is what statement the GOP makes by picking the particular candidate Cruz over the particular candidate Trump.

If Cruz wrests the nomination from Trump with a renewed message of unity and opportunity, the party as a whole should rejoice and celebrate. Indeed, there are four reasons the party should be dancing inside at the prospect, because Cruz defeating Trump represents:

“In this campaign he has two times I really disagreed
Planned Parenthood non abortion funding
Walking back the punishment gotcha question from Mr Mr Tingly “

Somewhere I saw that his daughter Ivanka is the one responsible for his support for Planned Parenthood’s alleged non-abortion services. I don’t recall exactly where I ran across this but my memory is that it was an aside in a larger article from a writer who had spent a good deal of time with Trump and his children. Trump sometimes does take advice from his wife and daughter.

As for punishment for women who get abortions- that wasn’t American law in the era before Roe v Wade. Abortionists were targeted by the laws, but not the women, who were considered a sort of victim. Some states did have the option of charging the women with being accomplices, but there were only two such prosecutions in all of the 20th century.

Trump was unfamiliar with what the law had been before Roe v Wade, as I suspect that 99% of the public are. He was simply employing what seems logical, which is that if you participate in a crime in some fashion that you pay a penalty. But that hasn’t been our historical practice. All of the major anti-abortion groups endorse the pre-Roe policy which targets only abortionists.

Trump gets support from Romney Christie lover Ann Coulter qne lets not forget Scott Brown. There are many other establishment types who support Trump. So that is fine with your thinking. Oh, and I forgot he said Planned Parenthood does wonderful work.

“Enough of this bullsh*t, clubbing each other over the head like baby seals. It’s time for Cruz and Trump supporters to unite and destroy the crony fascist GOPe.”

If this opportunity slips through our hands we will never see anything like it again. The GOPe will continue to pull the party to the left, and the Democrats will merge with Mexico’s PAN.

“Both C and W are very pro life and conservative by most standards. Its amazing how really good people like these two, and Cruz, are the enemy to Trump supporters.”

Then they should quit talking about Trump and talk about how good they are. Instead Carly butts in when Ted is asked a question and calls Trump a “serial philanderer”. That’s where they go so wrong - Carly was dating before she got divorced. It’s really stupid to load the gun you pointed at your own head. Ted’s done that too, many times. They should shut up about Trump - especially Ted with his constant lies, half truths, and misrepresentations.

Six months ago, did you ever think a country full of freepers would ignore the fact that a Republican presidential candidate fornicated with the Democratic establishment for 40 years and still vote for him?

And you - equivocation. That too is comical. Can’t deal with content so you make it personal.

tRumpbots fantasyland anyone?
Merely wishing it to be so doesn't make it so.
On what planet does tRump win 36 delegates in Nebraska? tRump will struggle to win even one delegate in Nebraska.
South Dakota is winner take all. Ted Cruz will smash tRump like a guitar and grab all 29 delegates. In your crazy tRumpbotI fantasyland, you have Sleazy tRump winning the 29 delegates in South Dakota? Not gonna happen in a million years.
There is simply no way Sleazy tRump makes 1237.

“OMG! Goldman-Sachs wouldn’t be listed there if there wasn’t some way around it like it is explained in the catch-all disclaimer. It just said it couldn’t be at the federal level but it does explain how else it can be done. It’s right there in blue and white. It’s true or Goldman-Sachs wouldn’t be listed.”

Bernie, shouldn’t you be working on the campaign trail?

Hitlery is the target, remember?

So by not answering whether you are in agreement that Walker should have given in to the unions and raised taxes and you support adding more ethanol supports, you are the one not dealing with content. That is OK as I know many non conservatives support Trumps liberal stances.

He only likes Republican candidates that “fornicate” to ultra-liberal Democratic candidates.

I agree with your comments.

I think things are solidifying.

The gig is up and the whole Cruz team knows it.

If he pulls a stinking turn-coat action like he’s made everything think he will, he’ll be luck to find a job as a bill collector.

That must be it. If Trump is the R candidate I will pull the lever for him but will not be surprised when he puts a pro choice type on the USSC and deals with the Dems on raising taxes etc in order to balance the budget. Watch and see.

Very comical again. Other than Lee, Cruz was the ONLY senator willing to shut the whole freaking mess down over Obamacare. But Trump will make sure the feds lead the way on national health care. Since you aren’t a real conservative I guess that means nothing to you.
