I am sorry if you misunderstood the meaning of my question. Obviously this political season is too charged to expect a straight forward answer to a simple question. I have no interest in trading insults.

Cruz would have done better in Texas if there had not been so darn many candidates- just saying.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems like a unique situation, one that is easily understood by a resident but not so much by others. I can’t think of any other state/city identity quite that way.

This isn’t a surprise. That said, Cruz has consistently out-performed his poll numbers, while Orange Don has consistently underperformed. We’ll see what happens on election day...

My attempt to answer your question was NOT intended to be an insult. Political season or not 'facts' still remain.

Good God. PA taken over by counter-revolutionaries.

What, on account of a Fox News poll? They're in the tank for Orange Donald. We'll see what happens on election day.

It?

None of this rant addresses the point made that Trump’s position on immigration and trade is not liberal and nothing else matters in this election cycle to save our country.

We MUST vote for the person who will actually stop the criminal illegals, including Islamic terrorist operatives, from gaining easy access to our country. We MUST vote for the person who will fix our current ridiculous trade policies in order to bring American jobs back to our workers.

Nothing else matters, not a single of these points raised matters at all. Only the future actions that will address what needs to be done to Make American Great Again have any relevance right now!!!

A non political lay person as a businessman is perfectly justified to take any position they want and change positions as needed for circumstances BEFORE they became a professional politician. We all do this; it is called adjusting to what life gives us.

Changing positions only matters once the person has announced their status as a professional politician. It would be different if Trump, after promising to build the wall, does not. However, for the sake of saving America we must take that chance.

Yes but wins are by district and New York conservatives understand and don’t approve of NY values. Cruz and Kasich will win delegates, only question is how many.

Actually not. There is a threshold of 20% below which a candidate is eligible for zero delegates.

And Trump has shown strong numbers in north New York, and that’s part of his claim that he has a chance to take New York from the democrats.

New York is in a week.

The national election is in 7 months.

In Connecticut’s most recent poll Trump was leading by about 18 points. That poll was taken in November, but it is the most recent.

Should we go by it?

Trump over 50% and Cruz under 20% is a big deal in regards to delegate distribution.

I automatically assume it means the city. Is that a correct or incorrect assumption.
#######

I’m from Texas but have lived half my life up north.. Do you consider the city of Dallas to representative of the state of Texas?

I know it’s not a fair comparison, but NY is very similar to Illinois - Chicago is half of the population of IL and typically that vote swings the state..

Not many other states have the demographics as Texas.. the only one that comes to mind is California. 3-4 major US cities and a large non-urban population.

When I asked my original question, it was not in a political context. The situation of New York (City and State) is unique in that the largest city has the identical name as the state. I was simply curious how residents dealt with that singular situation. One poster, I took to be a native, explained that when he heard New York, he assumed it referred to the city unless context dictated otherwise. Another explained the different perception of individuals depending on where in the state they lived. My question was based on curiosity, not politics. I am sorry if I was not sufficiently clear.

As to your question of whether I consider Dallas to be representative of Texas as a whole, the answer is of course not.

Basically New Yorkers are from either The City, Long Island or Upstate. Long Island is Suffolk and Nassau only as Kings (Brooklyn) and Queens counties may be geographically on Long Island but they are part of The City. Westchester County is nominally one big bedroom for The City. A very expensive bedroom. Anything north and west of Westchester is “upstate”.

People that live or work in NYC proper refer to it simply as “The City.”

Sorry - I went back and read your question - I probably misunderstood.

I can’t answer the NYC vs NY thing.. hopefully you got an answer..

I live up near Chicago - and the reference is “The City” when referring to Chicago and everywhere else is Illinois / Wisconsin or Indiana..

Maybe they do something similar out east.
