The sad thing is that the Constitution has been so twisted by activist and "pragmatic" interpretations that very few of us on FR can be certain this was a Constitutionally correct decision.

Cruz may be NBC or may not be, but we'll never know because our understanding of the Constitution has been so warped by liberals and conservatives alike that it is now indistinguishable from radio static.

Laws existed before the Constitution was ratified, and the laws present at the time of the ratification of the Constitution spelled out what a “natural born citizen” was.

Easy peasy, huh?

Well, those laws got superseded by others that did not bother to spell out what a “natural born citizen” was. The Constitution was now using an orphan term.

Enter the wonderful circus of legal Rorschach tests.

I say stupid on the USA. We might as well have had a Constitutional requirement that the President be a freeblesnork.
