I just contacted my son in Okinawa. He says that felt nothing, and there is no apparent damage.

Prayers up. Absolutely. I've tuned in to "NHK World" cable channel (Japanese programming in English). They are doing ongoing news broadcasts of the quake. Fires have broken out.

The earthquake is located in Tamana, not far from the city of Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu. There was concern about the nuclear power plant at Sendai nearby, but I believer that plant shut down with no issues.

Hmm. NHK World says quake was 6.5, but “7.0 on Japanese Seismic Scale”.
