It’s not often that I hate when I am right. I was listening to Japan news. They called the Thursday quake a 6.4, and this one a 7.3. So far only 3 deaths, but expect many more, and 470 at hospitals with broken bones and other injuries. They keep repeating the same short information of about 3 minutes with the same photos over and over. I suspect that means they are having a really hard time getting their photographers and news crews out and back to the studio.
Oh my.
..... Powerful new tremor in Kumamoto.....
Media caption Damage has again been severe,....A MORE POWERFUL earthquake has rocked the southern Japanese city of Kumamoto in the middle of the night, a day after an earlier tremor killed nine people.
The magnitude-7.3 quake hit at a depth of 10km (six miles) at 01:25 on Saturday (15:25 GMT on Friday) in Kyushu region. At least three people died and hundreds were injured.......Avillage has been evacuated after a dam collapsed, media reports say.
This new earthquake in Kyushu was much bigger and hit a wider area than the one that struck Kumamoto on Thursday night, says the BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes in Tokyo.
In one town near the coast, the city hall has been so badly damaged there are fears it could collapse. A hospital has been evacuated because it is no longer safe....... A number of buildings in the region were severely damaged or collapsed after the quake... Roads have buckled and some power supplies are now disrupted
Thousands of people have fled on to the streets and into parks - where they are huddled under blankets looking dazed and afraid, our correspondent says..............But there are numerous reports of people trapped inside buildings, including at least 60 inside an old people's home.
Public broadcaster NHK says the dam collapsed in the Nishihara village.
Kumamoto quake halts factory work ....
And not one of them is sitting around complaining about the government not helping them. They pick themselves up and rebuild.
Exactly....just like when they got hit so very hard before....they are a self sufficient people...
That’s not good.
What an extraordinary picture. Utter destruction surrounds this woman and she’s powerless to do anything about it. Yet she can do something, and she does it. Wonderful spirit!
8 Powerful Earthquakes magnitude 4.0 to 7.4 have shaken Kumamoto in the last 2 hours,... 24 hours after deadly night.
U.S. ready to help Japan as Kumamoto quakes continue...looks like Worlds reacting to this tragedy...
Great idea having a tent....
I might have. I remember my dad reading the newspaper. then would stretch out on the couch with some sheets of newspaper covering him up.
Of course it was inside of cozy, intact house.
Although I imagine that Japan is better prepared for this kind of thing than most countries. Probably even better that the U.S. in some places?
