TMZ: Unreleased video convinced prosecutors to forego charges against Lewandowski

The gossip site TMZ is reporting that authorities in Florida decided not to prosecute Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski because of a video provided to them by the Republican presidential front-runner’s campaign.

The report cites anonymous sources who say the unreleased video shows then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields being told by a Secret Service agent she was standing in an off-limits area. The scene takes place before the alleged battery occurred.

TMZ also says that prosecutors were swayed by an affidavit from Secret Service agent Barton Brown, who headed up former Attorney General Eric Holder’s security detail. The affidavit reportedly says Lewandowski’s actions were appropriate for that situation.

Surveillance footage from the campaign event shows Lewandowski grabbing Fields by the arm and pulling her away from Trump. Fields later filed a criminal complaint against the campaign manager; on Wednesday, it was reported that prosecutors would not be pressing charges.

And had he simply privately apologized for his overreaction

BS. This slip and fall reporter wanted her 15 minutes and would have loved to take Trump down. She underestimated Trump though and now she is trying to save face with the little pipsqueak Shapiro.

It looks like Trump's team faked her out with a fake apology they showed to the prosecutor and/or police...or someone. But it never got to her.

I'm sure the no show apology took that Cheshire grin off her face.

Why take chances? If he saw someone inside the protective bubble, physically touch the candidate, should he really wait around assuming someone else is going to act? In those few seconds, tragedy could strike and he’d spend the rest of his life wondering how he could’ve seen it coming and failed to act. No way.

He should apologize?? She's the one that was in the wrong.

BS to any apology.

Levin won’t have time to cover it. He is to busy hocking daddy’s coloring book, Goldline, Levin TV, and issuing press statements for the Cruz team.

Why didn’t the local cops talk to the SS before deciding to send the file to the states attorney? All this could have been avoided.

Paging Ben Shapiro! Ben are you out there?
Do you need a bandaid for that nasty bump on your head after hitting the Trump Wall?

What news service do you refer to? Most news reports are still showing her a victim. She should be black listed but won’t be. Hell she’ll have her own “news” show on msnbc any minute now.

“gross microagression” I do that often... when I’m picking a small but persistent booger out of my nose.

Do you have a camera looking at me? I’m paranoid now!

You miss my point. The SS SHOULD have, and Trumps man shouldn’t have HAD to due to their lackadaisical response, both times.
And he wasn’t even slightly rough with that drama queen who has accused numerous people of the same thing.

The rule for Republicans has been, if an underling gets bad publicity, throw him to the sharks. All Democrats had to do to get rid of a Reagan appointee was to gin up a “scandal.”

Another rule Trump isn’t following. Note how, unlike Cruz, Trump said, “I’m not going to ruin a man’s life” when there’s been no investigation, let alone a trial.

Yes, the little punk grabbed her. Please don’t play the Trump game and deny that he ever touched her or knew her. That crap is getting old. Accept responsibility, apologize, and move on - that is what men of character would do.

There was no need for a CAMPAIGN MANAGER to grab her by the arm and pull her backwards. The SS was there precisely for security. ITS THEIR FREAKIN’ JOB to react if there was any threat, perceived or real, or if she was too close for comfort.

Its laughable the way people are acting like this campaign manager hothead is some Rambo-ski coming to save the day from this petite reporter simply asking questions.

Please do not interpret my posts as support for Fields. Both sides unnecessarily escalated this at best, incident.

From the video below, there is what looks like an SS agent directly behind her. Lewandowski goes out of his way to grab her and pull her back. Why? Was she a threat? Did he not like her question? Does he not like her? If she was a threat, the SS agent was in a far better position to see it, and neutralize the threat. It seems odd that she was the only reporter singled out for the Lewandowski treatment. Had the SS agent done the same thing, I wouldn’t be commenting because THAT IS THEIR JOB.

At the 1 second mark it appears Trump is looking at her and listening to her question. Trump looks down and here comes Lewandowski to save the day. My assumption is that he didn’t like the question about affirmative action so he separated her before Trump could answer.

>> Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, told the Erik Wemple Blog: “As we said from the beginning, Corey Lewandowski was not involved. We are vindicated and we look forward to receiving an apology from your publication and your reporter, Ben Terris.” <<

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2016/03/11/washington-post-reporter-rebuts-breitbart-story-about-possible-mistaken-identity-in-michelle-fields-incident/

>>> Yet the video CLEARLY shows, and the eyewitnesses confirmed, that Lewandowski WAS involved. Why was the campaign lying? Take responsibility, apologize and move on. But they weren’t finished. They needed to intimidate and destroy Fields.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/03/14/the-trump-campaigns-victim-shaming-response-to-the-michelle-fields-incident-is-eerily-familiar/

The incident itself was nothing more than an unfortunate altercation. If the little punk does this often however, maybe he might need anger management, or needs to pick another, less “dangerous” line of work, where there is no need to manhandle women.

What is really revealing is the attitude on this thread, and within the Trump campaign, and especially with Trump himself, that the first thing is to lie, then attack the character of the accuser, and then unleash your henchman to intimidate her. That’s very Clintonesque.

I’ve watched the video. It isn’t clear to me, from the video, that he ever touched her.

Considering that she was originally claiming that he knocked her down, etc., none of which happened, it’s easy to see why there was none of the Kumbaya you imagine would have been the proper response.

No, she did not say he knocked her down. And if you click on the youtube link I posted, he is clearly seen reaching for her, having to stretch around the SS agent, and pulling her back - you can see her body twisting. The next frame she is six feet back from Trump. Then you see Ben Terris from the Washington Post confront Lewandowski.

Terris was watching Lewandowski, waiting to interview him, and confirmed that it was Lewandowski who grabbed her. The discussion between Terris and Fields is recorded the moment after contact.

Again, the incident itself is far less important than the Trump campaign’s response. THAT is what is most troubling. It reminds me very much of the way the Clinton mob treated anyone who stood in Bill’s way to the White House.

Good summary of events the first few days.

What is it about Trump that makes some white women go utterly berserk with rage? Is it a bad daddy thing?
