It’s on: Tensions between Trump and the GOP escalate in public fight
Washington Post ^ | Apr.15, 2016 | Jenna Johnson and Ed O'Keefe

Tensions between the Republican Party and its own front-runner erupted into a full-blown public battle as top party officials rebuked Donald Trump on Friday for alleging that the GOP primary system was “rigged” against him.

The dispute, which has been simmering for days, centers on Trump’s failure to win any delegates last weekend in Colorado, which selected its 34 delegates at a party convention rather than a primary attended by voters. All went to Trump’s chief rival, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

The outcome prompted a daily stream of complaints and allegations this week from Trump, who wrote in an op-ed published in Friday’s Wall Street Journal that the “system is being rigged by party operatives with ‘double-agent’ delegates who reject the decisions of voters.”

We will see.

No, you won't.

Trump will not run third party for two reasons:

1. Many states have "sore loser" laws that block candidates who ran in a primary from running as an independent or on another party's ticket in the general election. He couldn't get on the ballot in enough states to have a shot at winning.

2. Few big donors would sign on, so Trump would have to largely self-finance the campaign -- which would be hugely more expensive than his primary campaign. His net worth isn't sufficiently liquid for him to undertake that kind of commitment...and he's too tight to do it, anyway.

Manafort is going to take the head RNC gig and reform the GOP.

Actually, the RNC has already announced that if Trump wins the nomination, he will not be allowed to install his own people at the RNC.

That would leave the Republican party with about 10% of it’s registered voters in 60 days.

It is these kind of statements that make Trump supporters sound delusional. You might get AT MOST 30% of the party to leave. The idea that 90% would follow Trump is fantasy. IF that were the case, he would have already hit 1237, not be facing an open convention.

This Manafort?

Paul Manafort, a long standing political fixer who lobbied for some of the most brutal regimes on earth, allegedly sexually harassed at least one employee, and who has close ties to people who are part of the Russian Mob, the organization has devolved into the archetype of the “snake pit” model of organizational behavior.

Politico is a left wing rag, and that’s a pile of guilt-by-association smears that gets used against any Republican who is feared by Democrats.

The Parties are an anachronism, Bobby, and need to wither away like an appendix.

We have a Republic form of Government. We don’t need the fecking Parties deciding our candidates.

When does special interest on top of special interest on top of, etc. become an Oligarchy?

The Parties are parasites.

I was a delegate to three conventions (county, congressional district, state) supporting Ron Paul in 2012, and we saw all of these dirty tricks. There was a lot of rigging going on all over the place.

The only dirty trick they pulled against Paul that they haven’t done against Trump is the one they can’t, because Trump is simply too well known. Google “Ron Paul Blackout”, or you can simply watch this and get your mind blown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keWX55SpYmU

Wow, unbelievable video...Such honesty in reporting from all sources...who knew the COMEDY CHANNEL would have the most accurate honest commentary?!?!

Once he’s president, it takes on a different dynamic.

People want the Washington cabal pulverized.

Wow so Paul was an outsider trying to break the uniparty, he just did not have the resources that Trump does...but he has been treated just like Trump. Just amazing!

I am a bit tired of the only true, consistent conservative narrative about Cruz. He was not honest to Texans when he ran for senate conveniently forgetting he still held Canadian citizenship. He lies repeatedly about who started the sex scandal issues. He blames Trump and his supporters for violence by BLM and moveon.org. I won't even fully go into him standing on stages with Beck saying Cruz is anointed by God when Christ is King.

Now he tells the host on Squawk Box " “Look, we’ll take money from anyone. In fact, Andrew, I would love a check right now. It’s $2,700, or you could go to TedCruz.org,” Cruz said.

Would he now accept a donation from Planned Parenthood or a foreign leader or how about George Soros? Ted seems to be able to pick and choose what conservative principles he wants to adhere to based on what gets him what he wants.

Go listen to tapes of Trump from the late 80's some values have evolve for the better but the majority of his beliefs remain the same. We have a man who is flawed but loves America and is consistent in beliefs in Trump. Cruz choose expedience in what conservative values he lives by.

I didn’t read/hear the Trump campaign statement, but did they actually say the system is rigged AGAINST HIM? What is printed is that the: “system is being rigged by party operatives with ‘double-agent’ delegates who reject the decisions of voters.”

The statement is that the system is rigged — which it is. It’s rigged so that the Establishment GOP can appoint whomever they want to screw whomever they want. This year it happens to be rigged against Trump.

The good news is that Trump is a NY street fighter whose personality won’t allow him to be used as a doormat, as others in the past have done. The even better news is that, because of him pointing out the truth, voters at every level of political awareness now know that their votes don’t matter. Probably never have, really.

That’s what’s pissing off the GOP. They’ve been exposed, like the Wizard of Oz was. “Pay no attention to the operatives behind the curtain.”

“Cruz is the perfect patsy for the GOPe,”

Kasich, as well. His presence is throwing a monkey wrench into the operation. That doofus should just go back to his S&M club with Scarborough, Condit, et al., and leave us alone.

“So we can infer he will take out Romney followed by Rove and the Bush family influence.”

How refreshing it would be to see the end of the Bush family in national politics.

-- The GOPe is indeed trying to rig the outcome of the elections against him, ignoring the will of the people. --

Certainly some individuals in the party are.

The RNC/GOP is doing a poor job on managing this crisis. It's essentially picked a side and claimed there are no shenanigans. That would be like Johnson & Johnson saying nobody was poisoned by a tainted bottle of Tylenol. The RNC is set up to arbitrate conflcits like this - it should say there is a conflict, and it will arbitrate it, and until the facts are in, it has nothing further to say.

You remark only covers "timing," although I agree with your remark. Priebus has telegraphed that the RNC won't necessarily share its resources if Trump wins the nomination, and it certainly isn't going to give control of RNC resources to Trump if he somehow becomes the nominee.

If Trump wins the general election, the calculus changes. RNC leadership positions are elected too, there is a process for turnover. I don't think Manafort is interested in the taking the job, but Priebus doesn't have a lock on it.
