If I remember correctly, the 1999 “Year of the Locust” ended up being mostly a dud.

I remember when they invaded Riverfront Stadium during a Reds game.

Technically, I was in Fort Washington—that was my zip code, but we were over by the Rosecroft Horse Racetrack. Our apartment complex was right behind I-95.

In the summer, we could faintly hear the Rosecroft announcer from our house. We were just off Temple Hills road. You must have been on or near Brinkley.

Yah,I did some research after my post and found that it was,in fact, gypsy moths that we had.I think they're cyclical too.But the critters mentioned in this piece do sound rather unpleasant

Sorry, I didn’t see your follow up post.

Cicadas are not so much unpleasant than they are annoying for a few weeks. They don’t bite or sting and are actually beneficial. But they don’t fly well and have a habit of crashing into things, windows and including people. They also like to hitch rides.

Back in 2004, the last time the big Brood X emerged, I had just gotten back from lunch and was sitting at my desk when felt something fluttering on the back of my neck. I jumped up and screamed! It happened to other folks too. I also had a couple get into my car that year, no fun when you’re driving on the highway and big ole Cicada decides to fly around inside your car.
