If I remember correctly, the 1999 “Year of the Locust” ended up being mostly a dud.
I remember it well. THey were in Illinois. Depends on the weather patterns.
They come to middle TN too
It’s an incredible hum in the heat in woods
I remember when they invaded Riverfront Stadium during a Reds game.
In the summer, we could faintly hear the Rosecroft announcer from our house. We were just off Temple Hills road. You must have been on or near Brinkley.
Sorry, I didnt see your follow up post.
Cicadas are not so much unpleasant than they are annoying for a few weeks. They dont bite or sting and are actually beneficial. But they dont fly well and have a habit of crashing into things, windows and including people. They also like to hitch rides.
Back in 2004, the last time the big Brood X emerged, I had just gotten back from lunch and was sitting at my desk when felt something fluttering on the back of my neck. I jumped up and screamed! It happened to other folks too. I also had a couple get into my car that year, no fun when youre driving on the highway and big ole Cicada decides to fly around inside your car.
