PING
I wonder if Al Gore is calling Trump to tell him what to whine about next.
Quick quick ban this guy from CNNFOXMSNBC!
I have absolutely no problem with his statement that the “GOP nominee should be the person with the most delegates”....PROVIDED that the number of delegates assigned to each candidate is specifically proportional to the popular vote of the people for each candidate.
Abolish caucuses. Popular vote, preferably an open primary but that’s up to the party. VOTE not rigged decisions by party insiders!
I don’t care what Smearconish says, I still hate him.
Representative Republic-
As private organizations, the parties determine their rules, and everything that goes with it.
If one can realistically only get to the White House through the two-party system, how do we treat fairly the THREE parties in the election process?
How do we define our Republic when it comes to quasi, public-private entities like the Republican/Democrat parties?
We are not yet a direct democracy, as much as the Democrat Party wants to disband the Electoral College.
Voters get a vote, but the STATE also has a role to “cool the fires” of the mob.
A structure of direct, proportional, Voter-determined delegates PLUS some representation given to The System would seem to follow quite rightly.
So, Unbound Delegates selected by the the Party Bosses would make sense in a system run by the parties.
Unbound delegates selected by the State Legislature, with bound delegates selected proportionally by the Voters would give a more true representation of the will of the populace.
This fits a Representative Republic in my book.
Adults to Michael: “Without the GOP, Trump looses.”
Smerconish Is an idiot. If Trump or his supporters pull out of the GOP and run as third party, either Hillary will win or no one will get the 270 electoral votes throwing it to the House of Representative and a GOP victory.
Smerconish lost me when he spent 2008 reading Obama’s book aloud on his show every morning. He went from a relatively conservative host to all in for Obama.
AMEN!
Dear Mike,
Not everybody is stupid enough to elect Hillary once Cruz beats Trump for the nomination.
Some are that stupid, but not everybody.
Most Political Parties nominate the candidate that is the most popular with their voters. The ones that still exist I mean.
FWIW Smerconish is a good commentator and analyst, albeit a moderate. He worked in the GHW Bush administration.
But his commentaries are usually worth hearing, even if you don’t get the happy talk you might want.
If you come out of Cleveland and you dont have this guys constituency, you will lose in the fall.
That is TRUE of Trump. But it is equally TRUE of Cruz. Both sides better wake up, or we will have a liberal Democrat and a liberal Supreme Court until Revolution 2.
Fuque Smirk on his Face.
He is such an opportunistic ahole. Claimed to be a Reagan Conservative voting for Obammie the Commie.
Has been sucking up to the Left ever since.
Leftist, opportunistic ahole.
At the GA 5th District Convention today everyone seemed to agree that they would support the nominee regardless of whom was nominated in Cleveland. (With one exception. My friend from IL who ran never-Trump lost in the most lopsided of the contests for delegate.)
In a district where 45% went for Rubio, Trump a distant second, we chose 2 Trump delegates, 2 Cruz delegates, 2 establishment delegates.... roughly speaking.
