“Red’s Communist.”

Red states and blue states refer to those states of the United States whose residents predominantly vote for the Republican Party (red) or Democratic Party (blue) presidential candidates.

This terminology came into use in the United States presidential election of 2000 on an episode of the Today show on October 30, 2000. According to The Washington Post, the terms were coined by journalist Tim Russert, during his televised coverage of the 2000 presidential election.

That was not the first election during which the news media used colored maps to depict voter preferences in the various states, but it was the first time a standard color scheme took hold; the colors were often reversed or different colors used before the 2000 election.

Since 2000, use of the term has been expanded to differentiate between states being perceived as liberal and those perceived as conservative. This reverses a long-standing convention of political colors where red symbols (such as the Red Flag or Red Star) are associated with revolutionary movements, and conservative movements often choose blue as a contrasting color.

Do not try to explain logic to tRump supporters. They think this whole turning red thing was for tRump while it was only for Hillary.

Yes, I know exactly when it happened. Orwellian media newspeak propaganda. Just one of many aspects of our culture today of turning right to wrong, wrong to right, up as down and down as up on the part of the left. Deceit, deflection, misrepresentation, et al. That the GOP willfully swallowed the mislabeling was appalling. I have refused to use that false labeling from day #1 and urge others to stop using it as well.

"Yeah and red is republican for how many years now? One thing Donald trump is not, is communist"

The point is that the red lighting was not celebratory. The red lighting was more akin to Katie Couric always wearing black on the day after Republican election victories. New York values. The city is a liberal mecca. Not sure how else to put it to Trumpsters but they were being mocked. If New York could have put a yuuuge upside down American flag on the Empire State Bldg, they would have.

New York values. They are not laughing with you...

I know; the “red” pisses me off, too. Maybe this is one time we can be glad for the dumbing down of America; most people don’t know enough to connect “red” with “communism”.

It’s the “smart” people that continue to use it really anger me. Someone here referenced “Red State” as a Conservative GOP website, as if that justifies keeping this offensively inaccurate color scheme (when that name inherently SOUNDS like a place that favors/espouses leftist politics). Thank heavens Dave Leip’s website keeps the proper blue=GOP/red=Dem color scheme for his maps, as he launched it before the Orwellian 2000 switcheroo.

Red’s Communist.

So are those who make the decisions on what to use the Empire State Building to advertise for...and homosexual and anti-White privilege, etc...

So, what's yer real point....he pisses off and upsets such as those who use the building to push perverted communism?

Prior to 2000 the color blue was used to represent the current sitting President’s party. The out of office opposition party was represented by the color red.

After 2000, as someone stated in another post, with GWB as incoming President, the color red for the now opposition Democrat Party, grew too close to the Democrat’s real character.

The world turned upside down! The “Reds” are now Republicans/Conservatives.

If I'm not mistaken, N.Y. is a closed primary.........cross-over voting was not permitted.

Correct. FWIW, if you look at the primary vote totals on a state by state basis, the Democrat turnout has dwarfed Republican turnout overall.

That doesn't bode well from an "enthusiasm" POV or for the November elections if history is any guide.

Trump's got some work to do.

Well when NY was called for Trump ( within 2 minutes of the polls closing) they lit up red

And when NY was later called for Hillary, they lit up blue

So Frances, call me a delusional low info Trumpster but it seems like it was a simple political moment being celebrated for each party

NY values

Bernie Sanders got more votes than Trump.

That was pretty cool.

We will NOT see that in November though.

Sadly.

Even if Cruz were Veep on the ticket.

The Welfarians control N.Y. now.

Jedi.
