Republican establishment warms to Trump after big New York win

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (Reuters) - U.S. Republican officials began meeting on Wednesday, a day after Donald Trump's crushing victory in a New York presidential nominating contest, and said he has been winning growing acceptance within their ranks - but they want to see the billionaire do more to mend fences with the party establishment.

Trump, the front-runner to become the Republican presidential candidate in November's election, was the focus for the party's spring meeting of 168 Republican National Committee (RNC) members in Hollywood, Florida. The three-day conclave at an oceanside resort will take stock of the race for the White House and prepare for a possible contested convention in July in Cleveland.

The New York real estate mogul's win Tuesday in his home state over rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich was an important milestone for RNC members, who said it could put him on a pathway to acquire the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination outright without a contested convention.

"There are a fair number of RNC members who were discounting his chances of success when we met in January and now see that he’s building a substantial lead and may in fact get to 1,237 before we get to the convention," said Steve Duprey, an RNC member from New Hampshire.

"The New York results were such an overwhelming win," Duprey said. "It's impressive. That's what I've heard people talking about."

Ted and his supporters are in quite the rage today. Something more than NY win is in the air.

Trump is GOPe!!!!!

What? It worked for Cruz, right?

If the GOPe is cozying up to Trump it must mean he's one of them, right?

Republican establishment has it’s spring meeting in Hollywood, FL? That’s the most Democrat city in the most Democrat county in the state. These people are idiots. Born to lose.

Notice the difference in the latest stories about Trump and Cruz and the GOPe?

Trump/GOPe story "GOPe warms up to Trump..."

Cruz/GOPe story "Cruz looks to 'make nice' with GOPe..."

That pretty much tells the story right there...

Ted gets discarded earlier than I thought. Politicians are liars, whores and thieves. None of them want to get left behind and thus are getting on the Trump Train. One thing you can count on with the Republicans is that they will cave in all instances. The resistance to Trump was always temporary.

That’ll be tendered in the form of donations drying up.

The closer Trump gets to the nomination, the more ‘they’ will come around. They do not want to foresake someone who might be the next Power in the Oval Office.

Lol!

When it comes to politicians, the bargaining stage is immediately followed by the begging stage.

Just today one hedge fund principal linked to a big anti-Trump money PAC said it will cost a half billion for Trump to get in the White House as in 15,000 checks for $33,000 each in order to fund the ‘ground game’. Does he have a point?

Let’s see if I was such a HF principal requiring a paltry 3% commission for a spreadsheet detailing a half billion spending on ground game infrastructure and bodies, that would he about $17 million for a couple weeks of work. Not bad wouldn’t you say? Should I be paid that?

Oh Romney! Where have thou vanished Mein Mitt? A mere $17 million my master. Can you shake the Trumper’s hand so that I can get to my rightful deserved winnings?

“......and said he has been winning growing acceptance within their ranks - but they want to see the billionaire do more to mend fences with the party establishment.”

So Trump is winning but they want him to start sucking up to smooth their ruffled feathers. Not gonna happen. They’re the ones that need to get over it and start working with him.
