Where Donald Trump’s support really comes from
The Economist ^ | Apr 20th 2016

Posted on 04/22/2016 6:59:38 AM PDT by detective

MOST analysis of Donald Trump’s support in the primary elections has focused on his appeal to poorer, working-class white voters, who are assumed to have lost the most to globalisation and are more open to his particular brand of populist politics. But his victory in the New York Republican primary on April 19th underscored his wider support across the party’s base. Mr Trump took 61% of the vote overall (the first time he has gained over 50%) winning across all demographic groups. That was to be expected in his home state. However, averaging out his support in all state primaries (where exit polling is available) shows that richer and better educated voters form as big a part of Mr Trump’s support base as those at the lower end of the income and education scales.

Cruz wouldn’t win WI, either.

Hey noob, I'm on the ground here in WI. I know the voting districts down to the city and - in some cases - precinct level. Cruz could win in WI in November. The Donald cannot.

Romney/Ryan lost WI to Obama 53% to 46%. Ryan did not help very much being on the ticket in WI. WI has gone Dem in the last 7 Presidential elections. I have no doubt that Hillary will carry WI in 2016.

A lot of people from other parts of the country have a huge misconception about Wisconsin as a slight moderate Democrat state. That is not the case and disproved by our conservative Republican Governor, GOP-controlled Assembly & Senate, and a 5-2 conservative majority on the state supreme court.

In truth, Wisconsin is both a strong conservative and strong liberal state. The areas within the city limits of the People's Republic of Madison & Milwaukee are as liberal as San Francisco & Chicago respectively. Other than those islands (plus a few former union manufacturing towns like Racine, Kenosha & Janesville), the eastern 2/3 of the state is extremely conservative. The rural west and Northwoods part of the state tend to be far less ideological and are more moderate.

The general rule of thumb in Wisconsin is: when the GOP runs a conservative, they win and when the GOP runs a moderate, they lose.

Romney ran as a centrist and was too moderate to win in Wisconsin - even with Ryan on the ticket. Cruz is a conservative and will win here.

Also, Hillary is not Obama. She is not black and the black vote will not be there this fall. She is also not Bernie and the student vote will not be energized.

But, the hidden factor that will help Cruz win in Wisconsin in November is the new voter photo ID law. Every presidential election the DNC sends busloads of minorities from Illinois to vote in the central city black neighborhoods of Milwaukee, Madison, Racine & Kenosha. There are some Milwaukee central city precincts and Madison student precincts that have recorded as much as 107% voter participation.

With a voter photo ID requirement, that can't happen this year.

“Trump is despised by 80% of Wisconsin GOP voters.”

Why is that?

***

Well, it could be because Trump used verbatim false Democrat talking points last fall to attack his then-rival Gov. Scott Walker as having created a $2 billion state budget deficit. Under Walker, the state has run at small surplus while cutting taxes, fixing the deficit left by his Democrat predecessor and passing many conservative reforms.

Or it could be that Trump repeated the slander this spring before our primary. The Donald actually doubled down on his Democrat-sourced talking points and falsely said that Walker slashed school funding. Most insultingly, the Donald tripled down and said Walker should have raised taxes to fix both the deficit and restore school funding.

We love our Governor. We love our conservative reforms. We love our lower taxes - and want them reduced further, not raised!

Beyond all that, maybe the reason 80% of Wisconsin GOP voters despise Trump is because we largely recognize Trump as a slimy, disingenuous NYC salesman who is NOT a conservative.

I have watched Trumps rallies and have heard him say over and over that he was "self-funding". I don't remember him ever saying that he was REFUSING money from his wealthy friends although I could have missed it. And just where did I accuse him of being dishonest? Those are your words, not mine.

Regardless, does it make sense he would accept money from the "little people" via his website and its DONATE button while refusing money from his friends?

Would you have me believe that if you or I or anyone sent ANY amount of money to ANY politician that they WOULDN'T take it? AND we probably wouldn't even get a thank you. AND would more than likely get a follow-up asking for more.

Making sense to you on the other hand isn’t my concern. You deal with it.

You see I do get emails every day from Cruz asking for money...I have never given to him.

I HAVE NOT RECIEVED ONE EMAIL FROM TRUMP ASKING FOR MONEY ..I on the other hand have given when he asked for money for the military. I’m not getting emails asking for more...

But the overriding question for us on Free Republic is: why do these people, Cruzers on FR, try to take over FR as their Globalist Elite forum, even after their candidate has suffered a humiliating defeat?

Congratulations to our presumptive nominee, Donald Trump!

Great job in New York and throughout this campaign. Cruz and Kasich are now mathematically eliminated and just like all the others who were mathematically eliminated should concede and drop out so we can all unite behind our nominee and prepare to defeat the godless America-hating traitor Hillary Clinton in November.

As conservatives and patriots, it's time to put bruised egos behind us, heal our differences and act united in the best interests of our nation. The media and the GOPe will try to keep us divided, of course, but we must not fall for their treasonous tricks.

A divided Republican party will ensure Hillary waltzes into the White House in November.

Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. Hillary would be a third term for Obama and would complete his mission of completely destroying America.

Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!

I'm praying this forum and our loyal members will now be shifting into high gear to defend our freedom by uniting against the treasonous enemy within.

Let's get Trump over the 1237 mark and finally take the GOPe completely out of the picture!!

Then onward to the presidency in November!!

Trump is despised by 80% of Wisconsin GOP voters.

Wisconsin hasn't supported the Republican presidential nominee since 1984, so why should we care?

...GET THE BANANA out of your ear and actually use your brain...Thousands and millions are not what is being donated on line as the average money ..He does NOT accept LARGE donations. PERIOD>>

JPUPDATES..quote (8 months ago)"Today, billionaire Donald Trump says he is open to accepting funds from big donors, which goes against previous statements where he boasted he could fully fund his campaign on his own dime. He even reprimanded GOP condidates for seeking donations from the Koch Brothers.

According to Politico, Trump met with two big donors last month. Trump says he has changed his stance on accepting donations as long as they come with 'no stings attached'. Trump told John Dickerson, 'I would even take big contributors as long as they don't expect anything...'".

Face the Nation Aug 23, 2015 Quote..Trump "I will take both big and small campaign contributions".

Also, there were 21 contributors from New York who contributed the maximum of $2,700.

There is more but this post is getting too long as it is.

You are a rude person so don't talk to me again.

Cruz - on the other hand - could beat Hillary in purple states like Iowa, Wisconsin

Iowa has voted for the GOP president twice in thirty years. Already dealt with Wisconsin.

I agree Trump cannot.

The last Republican presidential contender to win WI was Ronald Reagan. Cruz is no Reagan. He has demonstrated no crossover appeal nor any appeal to moderates and independents.

There is no state that Romney lost that Cruz can win.

Cruz is hardly competitive in the primaries and the general would be the biggest landslide ever. He’d be long gone if not for the GOPe corruption and Lying Ted being their useful tool.

Most of what is in the media is untrue.

"Ain't that the TRUTH."

This is very much like how the media attempted to disparage Reagan back in 1980 versus Carter.

I believe we're going to see the same END RESULT in 2016, which is TRUMP in a LANDSLIDE.

Perhaps my focus on the formation of a 3rd, immediately viable, conservative only party has clouded my judgment.

See tag line.

Input welcome.

This can be done tomorrow should we wish.

The ground game and volunteer forces are in place and ready to go...IN ALL 50 STATES.

Happy motoring.
