I listened to the press conference. Good men, and really shaken by this.

It seems several were shot in bed (while sleeping). None of the victims commited suicide so the assumption is the shooter is out there.

Very bizarre situation. May God bless them all.

It’s a closely connected community, so there are a lot of those related in one way or another. Most teachers had some of them at one point or another.

They were not rich people by any means, but the place was very well kept, cut lawn, nice barn, blacktopped driveway.

I’ve not heard anyone say anything about drugs yet. The proper nature of lawn and buildings leads me to think NOT by them, at least. Maybe the killer perhaps.

That was my first impression also. This sounds like the most vindictive syndicate-style execution I’ve read about since last weekend about a family in Mexico.

Have you learned anything about who the shooter (s) might be? It seems odd they haven’t even released a “person of interest” name. I guess it’s possible they don’t know, but it seems unusual. No bolo for vehicle or person.

Since it seems this happened in the middle of the night it’s odd the dogs didn’t start barking, unless the shooter was known to them.

Useless speculation I know, but something is kinda ...off. I can’t put my finger on it.

Ah! The dog that didn't bark!

It seems strange to me they kept the babies alive but killed the adults. That suggests sentiment for some reason so it ties into your ‘known to them’ thought.

I’m hearing nothing substantive. The dispersion of the sites suggests more than one shooter to me, and that suggests vendetta. It really sounds like an execution of a family.

It’s not terror because that’s more random. This is all one family even with a couple miles separation. So, it was targeted and intentional.

The location is right at the Appalachian escarpment in southern Ohio, and probably slightly under the highest elevations in southern Ohio. It’s is a huge hunting area, very sparsely populated, and that spine of hills runs south, hits the Ohio River and picks up again in eastern Kentucky, then eastern Tennessee. Lots of wildlife, flora, fauna, etc.

There’s a meth problem and a heroin problem in the counties, but that would be pure speculation, although it might explain a vendetta. The home I saw looked too well kept and cared for to be any kind of drug dealership. They were obviously lower economic strata, but they cared about their lawn, paint, barn, driveway, etc. Not fancy, but cared for. Strung out people wouldn’t do that, and people raking it in wouldn’t live so simply. Just my opinions, but I’ve known this area a long time.

You’re sure right about the Mo and Malvo murders.

What is truly exasperating about LE and the press is the way they keep info hidden instead of getting the public to help since that would be eyes everywhere. They don’t have to release every detail but some info could go a lng way.

Our local crime stopper pieces are usually from one to three months after the crime. Yeah, you will remember someone suspicious you saw weeks ago.

There seems to be a news blackout of sorts about this story. The authorities have a tight lid on it, none of the usual leaks normally expected in something like this.

I saw the neat lawn and red barn property you mentioned, but one of the other properties is not like that and is full of trucks, cars, tarps on roof- just generally poorer looking. No idea if that relates to anything but it’s a real contrast.

They released some of the 911 calls...it seems as though the first two discovered were badly beaten before being shot.

Very strange story.

More and more it looks like retaliation against an entire family perhaps for the sin of just one of its members. Again, that suggests a drug cartel type message.

We are so rural and so economically weak in these contiguous counties that it affects police capabilities as well. That’s why the state authorities are so important. They are probably in the lead although they allow the local sheriffs to maintain face.

The professional level is probably up a notch and that’s why the clamp down on info. We’re so isolated there’s also the possibility the shooter was so undisturbed they could have cleaned the crime scene.

Extremely weird - and there is still no arrest. I read in a news story that other members of the family had been informed, and told to be on the alert against threats ... Indeed.

I’m not quite sure why I’m following this so closely, but thought this might be of interest. Seems like SWAT is making some kind of move.

Also an article in the UK Daily Mail saying there’s serious speculation it could be revenge over demo derby....seems crazy but there you go.

I’ve not heard the demo derby story, so if you have a link, then I’m interested. The speculation I’ve heard all involves drug related revenge as the only explanation that makes sense....making an example of an entire family to make a point. But no one ever provides any facts supporting that idea..

But the notion that someone would go through the phone book and find scattered homesteads of exactly the same family stretches credulity. A family member or friend, on the other hand, wouldn’t have to search. Phone books aren’t real common any more, anyway.

What would make someone so determined to get that kind of revenge? I can’t imagine. Insanity maybe?

our local news station is saying that Mike Dewine, the Ohio attorney general, is giving a news conference at 4:30. that suggests something new perhaps.

Here’s the demo derby story.

It’s just so strange, isn’t it?

Hard to figure a derby car causing someone(s) to go house to house executing people. That’s a different world, isn’t it?

Possibly because it’s such a rare occcurence in a rural White area. Similar to where I live and not too awful far away.

Thanks for adding the updates, SE Mom. It’s sounding less like this was over drugs, or a domestic dispute, and more like it’s over something as insane as local jealousy over a $3,000 demo car. The very idea is insane, and this is an act of insanity.

Well...maybe back to drugs. At the news conf this afternoon DeWine confirmed there were grow operations at each house. Enough to kill over ? That information isn’t public yet so whether it was enough to cut into the big guys profits, who knows.

Lots of theories.
