Obama's amazing THREAT to Britain: UK would be at the 'back of the queue' after Brexit

The US President warned the UK would be “at the back of the queue” for a trade deal with America if it quit Brussels.

But his threat provoked outrage and scorn from pro-Brexit campaigners, who dismissed it as yet another scaremongering ploy from the pro-EU lobby.

Mr Obama, who will no longer be in office when decisions on a trade deal are made, delivered a lecture to the British people on why he thinks it is in the UK’s, America’s and the world’s best interests for Britain to vote to stay in the EU on June 23.

He weighed into the debate despite being warned by a host of anti-EU campaigners to “butt out” of our referendum battle.

He said there could be a US-UK trade agreement “down the line” but warned: “It’s not going to happen any time soon, because our focus is on negotiating with a big bloc, the EU. The UK is going to be in the back of the queue.”

The claim, made during a joint news conference with David Cameron, angered Leave campaigners.

Tory Justice Minister Dominic Raab said Mr Obama had made “a pretty cynical intervention”.

He added: “We’ve got a lame duck president doing an old friend a favour for purely political reasons – and taking a few unnecessary risks, being a bit irresponsible with the special relationship between our two countries.

Yes, Obama lecturing Britain will have the opposite effect than that intended.

Just like criticism of Trump makes him more popular, this will backfire on Obama.

LOL! Both Cruz and Obama would love to have Mexico & Canada a part of the US.

Most of Europe, not just the British, is fed up with being instructed what to do by an overpaid and untaxed cadre of know it all mandarins in Brussels and Strasbourg. Telling the British how to measure and charge for beer, the French how to make cheese, and the Germans how to make sausages, has been a running joke and sore for decades. Even those at the shallow work ethic end of the money pool, receiving benefits at the expense of their "rich" neighbors' taxpayers, such as Greece, Spain, etc. bridle at Brussels' dictates.

But in Britain's case you have a nation which has always felt itself aloof and distinct from, and threatened by, Europe. Since the British also have an underlying resentment of American hubris (overpaid, oversexed, and over here) Obama's ham handed remarks (is he capable of any other kind?) may just be the kick to the hornets' nest needed to push Brexit into a majority.

Members of the permanent security council cannot be the head of the UN. Then again, Kenya is not a member of the permanent security council.

If I were a Brit, I’d be sufficiently outraged that I’d vote for BRExit just to poke Obama in the eye.

The first item on the new president’s agenda should be to ask for the return of the Churchill bust to the WH. (after the place is fumigated, of course.)

Leaving the EU won’t do them any good.

Yes it will. Once free of the EU, the UK can go back to making laws and defending its own interests. Same for Texas on this side of the pond.

On a side note: The Celtic Tiger is sprinting back to life. It is also no coincidence that Ireland also is the least tolerant of European countries to muslimes.

The England wants to thrive, it will throw off the EU and free itself of the economic anchor of its deadbeat PIGS members. (Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain)

Run, UK! Save yourselves.

“Scotland will choose the EU over the UK and will import all the muslims it wants in the UK’s backyard.”

The New Scotland can barely feed itself. They have enough indigenous layabouts on the dole, much less adding a bunch of shiftless Muslims to the mix. They don’t have the money to import these dirtbags.

“The UK will become an insignificant little island and will probably break apart with Scotland getting out, etc.”

That will be their fate IF they stay in EU. That is what central governments do to states.

I agree. But the best solution is to follow Churchill’s advice from post #19.

I think this was their thinking in joining the European enterprise originally. Bring a bit of British good sense and decorum to the unruly Euro trash. But like an only child from a quiet household marrying into a big raucous family, the chances are you’re going to be more the moved than the mover.

“Queue?” What westerner ever uses the word “queue?” Which Brit coached the Kenyan to say “queue?”

Remember when he told Net that he didn't want to influence their election....so Obama wouldn't meet with him.

Seems to be on a different page with the Brits.

So we can't fool around negotiating a separate trade deal with the Brits? Since when.
