Austrian government in shock as far-right triumphs

VIENNA (AFP) -

Austria's government was licking its wounds Monday after a historic debacle that saw the opposition anti-immigrant far-right triumph in a presidential ballot two years before the next scheduled general election.

According to preliminary results, Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party (FPOe) came a clear first with 36 percent of the vote, while candidates from the two governing parties failed to even make it into a runoff on May 22.

The result means that for the first time since 1945, Austria will not have a president backed by either Chancellor Werner Faymann's Social Democrats (SPOe) or their centre-right coalition partners the People's Party (OeVP).

"This is the beginning of a new political era," FPOe leader Heinz-Christian Strache said after what constituted the best-ever result at federal level for the former party of the late Joerg Haider, calling it a "historic result".

The centre-right OeVP's candidate Andreas Khol came equal fourth with 11 percent, level with the SPOe's Rudolf Hundstorfer.

By “far right” of course they mean sane, rational, thinking people.

Anti-Jihad may have been a better choice of words, but considering the “immigrants” are almost entirely Islamic, I would be anti-immigrant as well.

There are European political parties chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!” at rallies.

Yup, it’s despicable the way the left has gotten away with branding Fascism as right-wing. The translation of Nazi is perfectly clear it is leftist.

I obviously don’t get Eurpoean politics but I’ve been reading articles for over a decade which play out like this: “The government is reeling from a stinging rebuke where far right candidates swept the slate...” and yet here we stand with the same buch of center-left or leftists in charge everywhere in Europe. So color me “unconvinced” that this means anything.

Even scenes like these will not dissuade the West from bringing muzzies into their countries.

Its interesting how Stalinists coined the term “far right” to describe the competing Socialists of Germany who were kicking their own Socialist society.

Nazism, Marxism, Fascism, etc. all same extreme end of the government paradigm. With Big central controlled governments at one end and self-governing individuals at the other end. The former always gains power in a democracy with Socialism, aka buying support with funds from the public treasury.

If you are anti-big government police states you are far right.

“Well, says the Small Arms Survey, a research outfit established by the Swiss government, the United Kingdom, with just shy of 1.8 million legal firearms, has about four million illegal guns. Belgium, with about 458,000 legal firearms, has roughly two million illegal guns. In Germany, the number is 7.2 million legal guns and between 17 and 20 million off-the-books examples of things that go “bang” (a figure with which the German Police Union very publicly agrees). France, says the Survey, has 15-17 million unlawful firearms in a nation where 2.8 million weapons are held in compliance with the law.”

The Hammer will not fall on a disarmed population it seems even in supposedly disarmed populations...

My left-leaning friends are going utterly apeshyt about this Austria news.
What did they seriously expect when savages are running amuck all around them?
Hopefully a sense of sanity can return to the region and tranquility can (somewhat) be restored.

Faces a run-off election on May 22 against... the Green Party candidate!

The "mainstream" parties will tell all the people that would have voted for them, to instead vote for the Green party, rather than have the "far right" party win. The media will spread that message. The European Establishment will try to stop the outsiders by any means necessary.

Exactly, it’s not far right at all, I hate the media. Good for Austria, now let’s do the same only before it gets bad here.

Hitler was a Socialist

Hitler was a pretty mainstream leftist for his time.

By the current definition, Churchill would have been labeled as being radical right.

Right...and the first chance the Brits got, they dispatched him after he saved their sorry a$$E$. F-'em...they deserve to be oppressed by the mullahs.

That would not be the FPÖ. They were founded by Nazis and are as far left as their forebears. They are just fine with a European Union that is slightly altered to fit their worldview, including a “hard” euro for the northern countries and a “soft” euro for the southern ones.

FPÖ MP Susanne Winter said stuff like this about Jews and “Zionists” last November.
