“Nearly 30 years Rush Limbaugh has been trying to affect the political system – with very little impact.”

One of the reasons is that Rush chose to be far more politically correct than people may realize. And Trump isn’t.

Whether Rush was acting out of belief or cowardice isn’t easy to tell. But immigration is an example. For years, dating back to 1994, people in the immigration patriot movement tried to get Rush on board with Prop 187 and halting illegal immigration. He wouldn’t do it. He was safely in line with what the GOPe and the US Chamber of Commerce wanted, no borders.

Compare that to Rush coming out in favor of NAFTA back around the same time. The GOPe loved that. As did Clinton and Gore. It was a politically correct position as far as both parties were concerned. And Rush joined them.

I used to love listening to Bob Dornan’s history lessons in the House’s Special Orders shown on CSpan.

I wonder if the GOP is responsible for helping Bob lose his seat in the house.

“What I thought I understood you to say, and the point which I had not known, was that he did not ever challenge the illegal immigration issue until it was too late and his goose was fried!”

That’s accurate. You couldn’t get Dornan to say one word about what mass immigration, legal or illegal, was doing to California. Until it bit him good and hard on his own rump. Then somehow it came to his attention.

And he didn’t have an excuse for not knowing. His constituents were among the biggest boosters of Prop 187. He just ignored them.

He got taken out by illegal voting, then it became more Hispanic and they would only vote their own kind in.

Near Santa Ana, right?

It may simply be that Limbaugh believed Americans would not vote for someone who never went to college, so he found another way to be influential.

Sanchez and Hermandad Mexicana Nacional were working out of Anaheim IIRC. The district contained parts of Anaheim, Fullerton and Garden Grove IIRC.

Rush simply wanted a career in radio. The political format wasn’t part of a plan, it was serendipity.

Paul did not win a single state; however, his ardent followers worked arcane local and state party rules to take over several state delegations, including garnering 20 of Maine's 24 spots.

You don't have to win a state to win delegates. I'm sure you know that, but you have not provided any evidence that Paul did what Cruz in doing with Double Agent delegates to a candidate who actually won delegates in a primary. His supporters could have used the rules to elect Paul delegates to unpledged delegate slots.

People mention Paul, but no one has provided links that describe precisely how he used the rules to claim delegates.

“...can’t control the message ...decentralized world of internet...”

I made this exact point too on a similar thread earlier. It is disconcerting to be finding out how much success the party had controlling the voters over the last elections that produced the Romney loss, etc. Although we suspected that we were being manipulated, we had no idea how bad it was.

The propaganda is not working this election cycle because people have access to the internet to do their own research.

Next the push will be for “rules” to sabotage the free internet - let’s hope that never happens.

On topic - Rush is unlistenable. One would think that he is smart enough to see that he is exposing the GOPe’s manipulation process, not helping Cruz at all - this is exposing the party machinations and solidifying the voters rebellion!

Yes

I forgot to mention the other reason why he hates Newt===Newt wouldn’t back him in his challenge to the election of Sanchez. Newt just thought he was too polarizing a figure apparently.

Listened for about five minutes toward the end of the show, when the lady called and said, well if Trump can donate to dems and expect favors, in business, that's cheating and he shouldn't be whining. Rush was orgasmic with his affirmation! I shut him off!

And, some might wonder why I quit listening to Rush....

My understanding, Cruz claims to have recruited delegates now pledged to Trump due to primary winnings to vote for him in second round or whenever their state rules allow them to switch.

Separate issue is states that have no primary vote, and delegates that are not pledged to vote a certain way. Cruz has gained the support of delegates in those states- I assume those delegates would vote for Cruz in the first round.

Dornan was always branded as “far right,” however, outside of abortion, gays and the military— his voting record was squishy and he was pretty much liberal on race issues and apathetic on anything else.

“...fallacy is that Cruz’s will stay and Trump’s would leave...”

Huge fallacy!! Precisely. You nailed it and others of us have been pointing this out as well. Those “Cruz” delegates will switch to Trump in the blink of an eye when he has even more momentum than he does now (and he has plenty now) and millions more votes backing him as the true winner.

That Rush and the deluded Cruz followers can’t see this is is astounding. The potential delegate flip works both ways. I actually used to think that Rush was very intelligent but this attempted defense of the establishment exposes that he has a massive and perhaps deliberate blind spot.

People, including delegates, unless outright illegally bribed and possibly even then, will want to vote the winner in.
