Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz has tapped former technology executive Carly Fiorina as his running mate in the race for the White House.
The Texas senator plans to formally unveil his pick for vice president Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
That's according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the plan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized speak before the official announcement.
Cruz is trying to generate momentum for his struggling campaign. GOP front-runner Donald Trump swept primaries in five Northeastern states on Tuesday.
Cruz has been mathematically eliminated from winning enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination before primary voting ends.
But he's pushing to claim the nomination at a contested national convention in July.
The 61-year-old Fiorina endorsed Cruz earlier in the year after abandoning her own presidential bid. The former chief executive at Hewlett-Packard has never held elected office.

I had a scenario where he got just over 1,300 but we’ll see.
Glad for yesterday’s sweep. Cruz in 3rd place in 4 out of 5 races. Looks like Trump was beating him 5 to 1 and 6 to 1, nearly, in two of them.
And Kasich has beat Cruz in state after state, five out of six, showing that he is the one who can beat Donald Trump. /sarc

The problem with her face is a real one. She’s been botoxed beyond human expression. That makes her ‘creepy’ to people at a subconscious level. “Uncanny Valley”
At a gut level, she comes across as insincere.
That’s not why I nixed her for myself. I was horrified when she went into great detail on how she’s provoke a shooting war with Russia. Everything that she happily detailed would be the start of WWIII and I was quite stunned that people didn’t see that.
This woman is dangerous as hell.
Snarly Carly was Cruz’s last ditch effort to win CA. Yuge fail. There are bets between folks in CA and NY over which state will beat Cruz with the biggest numbers.
They are just playing house. They might as well, they will never get the chance to do this again, ever.
Because he is apparently delusional. Carly just wants the free TV time.
And they close out this charade with their joined hands held aloft as if they just won the nomination. Now for the balloon and confetti drop.

When it was reported Cruz was going to make an announcement, most everyone thought the same exact thing.
But Cruz is owned. And as long as the insiders see a glimmer of hope to swindle this election from the American people, Cruz will stay in and do what he's told.
Otherwise, why would be stay in a race he can't win?
