Donald Trump could amass most primary votes in GOP history
New York Post ^ | 4/28/2016 | Bob Fredericks

Donald Trump will likely wind up winning the most primary votes of any GOP presidential candidate in modern history, the author of the influential Smart Politics blog told The Post on Wednesday.

After convincing victories in Tuesday’s primaries in five East Coast states, Trump has roughly 10.1 million votes, about 200,000 more than Mitt Romney got during the entire 2012 primary campaign.

And with the primaries ahead — including in populous states such as California, New Jersey and Indiana — the former “Apprentice” reality TV star should easily break the modern record of 10.8 million held by George W. Bush in 2000, according to blogger Eric Ostermeier, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota.

“In an election cycle with a high Republican turnout, his numbers are rising, even more so now that there’s only three candidates” left in the GOP race, he said.

This is looking worse and worse for Cruz and the establishment Republicans. Trump is setting records in turn out and voter involvement therefore Cruz and the establishment get together to crush Trump. Makes total sense.

At one point I had estimated Trump could get 15 million votes. Don’t know where that stands now. He lost about 1 million in WI/CO fiascos.

Overall, the GOP is going to get far more primary votes than the Dems I think. That’s how the numbers were a month ago when I ran these. Course, with the Northeast coming in, perhaps not.

For sure Trump makes the GOP competitive on blue states where they did not have a prayer in prior elections. Hillary should be very concerned.

I see this as the beginning of the Big Smackdown to the RINO’s first, then also to the PC nutjobs, by We the People.

Silly communists - don’t you know it’s futile to bet against America?

I see the changes just in the Facebook postings. You don’t see the usual Democratic puke stuff being posted by Democratic cheerleaders, tho I see an occasional Bernie post.

According to Limbaugh, it is not the votes you get, it is the faithless delegates you can bribe.

According to the infamous rules there is one line that addresses what can be given to a delegate. As long as it is not cash directly, anything can be given to a delegate stocks, bonds, houses, cars any form of asset as long as it is not cash.

Trump said he could spend $200 million and buy himself an election.

This election is very telling. It's chock full of "tells." A poker player gains an advantage from knowing another player's "tell."

Imagine if the race had started out with only six candidates there’s no doubt he would have broken 12 million votes (or 1/5 for totals in a general election) by now! The Republicans should SIMPLIFY their rules regarding delegates and the next time around limit the primaries to only 10 (Top) candidates. Any Candidate not getting more than 5% by December of that given year (this time in ‘15) should automatically be eliminated. The amount of time and money wasted by candidates (and the resources) that cannot attract more than 5% after four months of a campaign should not be allowed to waste people’s time.

If the situation was reversed, and Cruz had all these votes, and Trump was way down like Cruz is now, the entire Republican Party would be screaming at Trump to GTFO.

The biggest positive is that we have the internet and everything is out in the open. That gives us all a fighting chance.
