Some Dallas police officers will soon be toting “sponge guns,” weapons aimed at reducing the chances of a deadly officer-involved shooting.

Police booster group Safer Dallas Better Dallas announced Thursday that it plans to raise $250,000 to help pay for more than 100 launchers that shoot sponge pellets. The “less lethal” weapons are meant to disarm and incapacitate someone from up to 100 feet away, police officials said.

Yes, but it’s a government contract, so they will cost $800 each. They do probably have a stronger spring.

Further proof those in charge wish to destroy western civilization by unleashing hordes of feral humans to wreak havoc upon the law abiding without consequences.

from your link:
Minimum engagement range is 10 - 15 meters, and maximum effective range is 50 meters.

The defendant was only 9.2 meters distant when he was hit by the massive 40 millimeter projectile!
This so enraged him, he could not stop to surrender and was forced to return fire with both the Mac-10 and 9mm pistol that he had just found on the ground, only a few seconds before being blasted at such illegally close range.

Me too, I left back in the end of the 90’s. I could see what was changing and was from the inside and government idiots that I ran from.

For God’s sake give it a rest.

That is getting really old.

So, the criminals will also be required to use ‘sponge’ guns?

Liberals have such grand ideas — on paper.

Judge them by their intent, because the unintended consequences of this is going to cost officers their lives. How many officers will die in the line of duty before the Libs backtrack on this?

So, does the officer use the last ‘sponge’ bullet to soak up the blood from his wound or does he fire it at the approaching perp who is firing real bullets?

Decisions. Decisions.

Does this mean that the police will now be issued regulation Nerf guns?

I think you’d need something in the neighborhood of a 40mm sponge projectile to even approach “incapacitation”. Anything near the size of standard firearm calibers would just make the perp angry. Perhaps only mildly annoyed.
