Trump: 'I'd have to think about' Cruz for Supreme Court
The Hill ^ | 5/2/2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.

"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.

"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.

"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."

Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.

Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.

For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.

Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

NO on Mike Lee; he’s involved in the Shallow bribery case still going on here in Utah, along with Harry Reid, plus Lee voted for the Corker bill...

NOPE!!!

Apparently Trump’s judgement is about 500 +/- delegates and many more votes better.

And I can say that Trump is has no conservative core beliefs and can prove it, but at this point what does it matter? How are you going to sell Trump to Cruz voters? To the GOP base is all you are doing is slandering them?

Ted’s not GOPe. Neither am I. At this point, everyone should be striving for unity, yet I don’t see it happening here.

With all due respect, you,, bobo1 are not helping the unity happening here...you put snarks in at the very beginning of the thread...

You call for unity, yet Cruz’s campaign is not. That’s why.

By the outcome of the votes so far, the base is not the problem for Trump. Fact is, Trump has won almost all demographics and overwhelmingly.

I’d say protecting the sovereignty of the country, enforcing laws and protecting the economy through fair trade are pretty conservative ideals for a start.

Go for a walk or sober up or something.

We ARE the GOP base. If some drama queen loser wants to come around throwing weak little jabs and then expects us to kiss his ass for it, we’re going to kick him to the curb just like we did with Ted Cruz. Capiche?

Cruz has been an Epic disappointment in every way, and I was a Cruz hopeful before this campaign started. Now I don’t think he is even qualified to be in his current position.

WHY ?

Ted is unethical, unprincipled, ego driven, out for ONLY himself, his father is a crazed NUTJOB, his current BFF, Crazy GLenn, is completely out of his mind and a raving lunatic, his children don't want anything to do with him, he's a liar, a cheat, a thorough scoundrel, who believes that he is better than anyone else and worst of all, does NOT obey the laws of this land.

He has won a plurality of the base. He has also won in open primaries which allow the other side and independents to vote. He has not won all demographics overwhelmingly.
Don’t you see? Cruz voters, Kasich voters, Scott Walker voters are part of the demographic. When Walker endorsed Cruz, he attacked Scott from the left.
He could have simply said, “I understand, I hope that you will support me, should I be the nominee”. He’s alienated the Walker voters and he should be trying to win them back as this should be a time for striving for unity.
The constant attacks over here aimed at Cruz are doing nothing to bring unity. Yea, it might be fun for some, but alot of people have completely closed their minds to Trump due to the vitriol.

I can remember when threads like this used to be interesting. I think the Cruz supporters who would provide the dissenting position are keeping their heads down for awhile or have left the board. I hope this freeze on alternate opinions doesn’t last and discussions start to happen again. It hurts to lose an election. For some Cruz supporters, this is the fourth or fifth straight election their candidate did not get picked in the primary.

It’s tough. It’s even tougher when there is no attempt from the other side to win you over to their candidate. The Trump supporters on this board tend to circle the wagons and fire indiscriminately on those who disagree with their choice for the nomination. Yes, there is some from the other side as well. Of course. They are losing. They don’t feel great about it. Don’t you Trump supporters feel good enough about winning to be somewhat magnanimous?

I stopped supporting Cruz after the Iowa election. I never could support Trump to date, but I will vote for him in the general election.

Trump supporters. Be good winners (some have and thank you for that). You need Cruz supporters votes (and those of us who loathe pulling the lever for either) in the general to defeat our real enemy, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Third, Trump is the ONLY CANDIDATE TO HAVE RELEASED NAMES OF PEOPLE THAT HE WOULD CONSIDER. GO LOOK THOSE UP. HIS SISTER WAS NOT ON THE LIST.

I have not seen this list. Where can I find the the list of people that Trump would nominate?

I am and have been part of the base for over 40 years. If it is somehow your desire to throw everyone out that disagrees with some of your points, then your base is rather small.
