Not angry. Befuddled that somebody with a decent intellect is ignorant of SS. Survivors benefits are paid to the surviving spouse in perpetuity. Kids until they reach age 18 unless they are disabled. If the spouse dies the day after the first spouse and there are no kids then the money paid in gets redistributed. SS in a nutshell.

Why would someone not even involved in a specific program know all the details about it?

So it appears you answered my question, which is if a husband drops dead just prior to filing, his wife, working or not, is able to collected everything which was owed to her husband as well as any benefits due her.
