How Donald Trump Becomes the GOP Nominee: The Path to 1,237 Delegates
ABC News ^ | May 4, 2016 | By Lauren Pearle and RYAN STRUYK ยท

While the Republican field has now been cleared for Donald Trump, the road ahead is still messy for the front-runner to become the official nominee at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, in July.

Currently, Trump has 1,012 bound delegates, plus an additional 43 unbound delegates who are free agents -- though they have told ABC News they support Trump.

Most likely, Trump will hit and far surpass the needed 1,237 in total delegates on June 7, when delegate-rich states like New Jersey and California cast their ballots. He is predicted to take most of the 228 delegates up for grabs on that day.

I hope he gets to 1237 delegates prior to the convention and hopefully this will stop the GOPe from pulling any tricks to try to stop him, although one can't be sure of anything.

Wrong. Now that Trump is the only candidate he will get most delegates as he will get most votes.

There are also 128 delegates available in the upcoming elections BEFORE we get to June 7th when CA and NJ have their elections.

He took all of Indiana’s GOP delegates and that puts him over 1050 yet the ABC reporter pukes can’t even get that right.

But you’re right, Trump has no one else campaigning against him now.

It's called a “cognitive dissonance”

Can be cured in the short term by a whack on the side of the head with a 2X4.

The MSM just wants to raise issues to hurt Trump, to weaken him, to make it easier for Hillary.

The MESS you asked about is from the soiling of underwear of the following:

GOPe, LaRaza, Progressives, MSM, FOX News, Hillary, K-Streeters, Bill Will, Krauthamer, Levin, Rush, Beck, etc.

Delegates can be challenged, rules can be changed, and whoever hold the gavel owns the Convention ballots, isolation and rejection of TRUMP can be served.

This needs about two weeks to play out, when deadlines close for a rebellious Independent ticket to be executed.

This looks good for TRUMP, but is it, really, yet?

A treacherous period we are entering, and McConnell and Ryan remain curiously mum. We have to hold our fire and our breath for several more days.

The hatred among the 16 losers is still palpable and some of them own the party they just lost to TRUMP. We are hated.

What’s the deal with Rush? I only know him from transcripts here and a few shows MANY years ago.

Is he conservative, mildly conservative, mainstream?

seems conservative in the transcripts.

Bingo. MSM noise. We’ll have to get used to it, and used to ignoring it, for the next 6 months.

I think the larger, looming question is how does he get to 270 Electoral College votes, this will be an obstacle.

“Rush is a solid conservative.”

He used to be. I don’t how you would classify him today.

At this point, with Cruz and Kasich out, I believe Trump comes into the convention with 1,400 or more delegates.

Either way, he will not get there with plenty more than the 1,237 needed.

He wins, without question on the first ballot.
