Trump returns to campaign trail, targets Clinton on coal
Washington Post ^ | May 5, 2016 | Jill Colvin

Republican Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail for his first rally as his party’s presumptive nominee on Thursday night, delivering a series of searing attacks against likely rival Hillary Clinton and making clear he has no intention of toning down the rhetoric that drove his spectacular rise.

Trump, arriving to John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” betrayed a hint of wistfulness about wrapping up the nomination more quickly than he and his aides had expected. Rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich suddenly ended their campaigns this week, making his visit to West Virginia, which votes May 10, largely symbolic.

Good. Now he can focus on defeating Hillary and winning the general election.

But it's not really over --he needs to get those 1237 delegates -- there is some word out there that Cruz is working in the shadows to resurrect himself at the convention -- so those of you in states where the primaries are yet to happen -- be sure to get out and vote for Trump. The future and life of our country is at stake.

Cruz just suspended his campaign. He is still trying to sway WA delegates.

Cruz really turned out to be a bothersome little gnat, didn’t he?

Trump needs to run that Clinton attack against coal 24/7 in Ohio, PA, Virginia....that wins this thing for him.

No way can she back track on her statement. Of course the natural gas club will rush forth....

But the point is....we have ALL different sources of energy and we should be using all of them....

Coal is only a dead business cuz the EPA made it cost prohibitive.

I think the rules in WV are that the delegates are awarded automatically to Trump, for him to pick (I don’t know if there’s a list...) those who are committed to him — hopefully through and through, not just the first vote. There really is no way for Cruz to steal them in this case. But I don’t know if the rules are the same in each state, so it’s important that Manafort really know what he’s doing! I could be wrong this but I don’t think I am...

Yeah, and now we are buying coal from China! Or if not yet, we will be soon...

Top priority should be to try to minimize voter fraud in November.

Well, we can start counting states for the general election. The first state, West Virginia will go for Donald Trump. No way they are voting for Hillary. 49 more states to go. It will be fun to see how they start falling.

During the "great recession," along unused railroad tracks scattered about the country were placed unneeded railroad cars, because there wasn't enough demand for cargo. I was just driving through rural Colorado a couple of weeks ago and saw the same thing, miles of railroad cars left on unused tracks. They were only two types of cars though, coal carriers were the most, and some oil tanker cars.

Queen Hillary was SO smug and bordering on gleeful when she made those remarks - I can’t imagine that blue collar workers in any industry, in any state, will appreciate that.

I hope she’s confronted about this at EVERY town hall and media interview for the next 6 months, and sees it played endlessly on GOP ads. And that the coal miner who spoke up to her becomes a conservative hero like Joe the Plumber.

Interesting... I keep asking, why vote?? He said he’s won all of their delegates, only doing the rally for fun! Is he trying to get the delegates excited? I really don’t understand, if someone can help me, I’d really appreciate it. For real....

Trump still needs to win the general election, and getting his points out there about being pro coal, anti-global warming and pro industry should be winning ideas with conservatives and in other mineral-rich states.

Makes sense to visit the various states and focus on what might seem like specific to that state - but is relevant in many states, or just gets a certain message out.

This pro-coal message is one I can get behind.

All this talk of investing in experimental and upcoming green energy but the leftist greenies don’t want to invest in making coal clean - it can be done with technology that can capture emissions. But they don’t want to invest in that. We have enough coal to power the world for almost forever.
