Trump says he’ll name running mate at convention

Donald Trump said Thursday that he will name his vice presidential pick at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July.

Speaking in an interview with The Associated Press, Trump said that it was still early in the process to select a running mate, but that he would soon form a committee to begin vetting running mates.

“It is early — we just won yesterday,” Trump said. “I will announce it at the convention. A lot of people are interested.”

Trump has said he intends to pick a Republican with prior government experience.

Trump has not yet reached the number of delegates required to clinch the nomination, but now has a clear path to becoming the Republican standard-bearer after his remaining rivals, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, suspended their campaigns this week.

I beat you to it yesterday ...still somewhat of a longshot.. Webb is a Repub at heart , he’s just anti neo-con, which is a good thing

When Ben Carson mentioned a dem might be picked, I thought of Jim Webb. He’s been GOP before; could change his registration back if Trump wants a GOP pick. Webb has been disillusioned with both parties. You were first, but the choice of Webb wouldn’t surprise me.

Trump is smart delaying the VP take as long as possible, exactly what Pat Buchanan suggested in his column today

Trump is a warrior. He thinks strategically, and always surprises his enemies. So they complain he’s “unpredictable.” So what!

Tom Cotton is a Sea Island Republican.

His name is being booted around by the RINOs who are talking of running someone on a 3rd party ticket.

Newt can be a loose cannon.

>> Jim Webb has been trying to turn the Democrat party away from it’s socialist tilt for quite a while now. Jim is a West Va. Hillbilly, former highly decorated Marine , and Sec of the Navy under Reagan....Don’t let the Democrat tag fool ya, old southern style conservative with a protective bent for the veterans. <<

Yikes! I USED to wonder how George Allen lost to this guy. If an unstable creep like Jim Webb is even getting glowing praise on THIS forum, his election is no longer a mystery to me. Pretty sad that voting "only" 95% socialist instead of 100% now makes you a "conservative" Democrat in the eyes of some GOP voters. Any conservative who would eagerly vote for the likes of Webb or LIEberman needs to have their head examined.

Some FReepers were giddy at the mention of Tulsi Gabbard being a potential VP nominee on a prior thread. Strange times when Gabbard is lauded, and Ted Cruz is vilified.

I’d like to see Col Allen West as his pick. He brings a lot of what Trump needs, and what America needs.

Two loose cannons are better than one.

This Jim Webb person you’re talking about is not the pederast-author slimeball weasel deranged nutbag Socialist who served in the United States Senate. His voting record was virtually indistinguishable from the two cretins currently sitting in the Senate from Virginia: an 84% lifetime leftist rating.

Tulsi is physically attractive, but with a stunningly repulsive 95.05% leftist rating.

Ted Cruz, of course, has a perfect 100% Conservative lifetime rating from the ACU, but he’s a leftist sellout to the ultraleft establishment far left leftist nutter left over on the left. =rolling eyes=

Can be ? Some folks also forget Newtie is less than 2 years younger than Bernie Sanders. He’d be 74 in his first year as VP. We need a dramatically younger and dynamic VP, either Cruz or West.

Webb brings nothing needed.

Webb brings insurance. Trump's VP pick needs to be just as unpalatable to the GOP establishment as he is lest they start impeachment proceedings a minute after he's sworn in.

Webb is not a republican.

That could change.

> For one entire generation they have been selling out America.

It’s been far longer than that. Reagan was a brief interruption. Google “George Romney +Goldwater” for a taste of how far back this goes.

He doesn’t bring any insurance. The GOP has already shown it is quite comfortable with moonbat leftists in charge. They’d be happy to impeach Trump for the execrable Webb.
