Trump should and will make his own decisions about what positions he decides to take. He’s already modified his positions on taxes and the minimum wage. it really doesn’t matter what Ryan wants. It is Trump who will be facing voters in November and, win or lose, he needs to be comfortable with his proposals.

So Paul Ryan basically wanted Trump to change every position of his that actually distinguished him from mainstream Republicans, and which were why he won in the first place?

Paul Ryan does not seem like a very smart man.

That is a great recap of the tsunami. And all that is why there s such consternation in the GOPe — they are going to lose influence over all those Repubs because of Donald Trump.

Needs repeating louder!

During his 13 years in the House, Ryan was the primary sponsor of more than 70 bills or amendments,[66][67] of which only two were enacted into law.[68] One, passed in July 2000, renamed a post office in Ryan’s district; the other, passed in December 2008, lowered the excise tax on arrow shafts.

All Trump has to do is explain his positions in that meeting next week, which of course are quite conservative. That should be it. He should bring Manafort with him to remind Ryan how much he has to lose if he doesn’t back Trump.

Because he’s now the presumptive nominee and is running against HILLARY.

You don’t run farther to the extremes in the general. You go right to the middle.

Trump has a huge advantage by locking in the nomination so early. Hillary is still struggling with Sanders and he’s pushing her ever-left.

The WV coal miner situation is the perfect example.

Sanders pushed Hillary left - into the arms of the envirowackos. Trump attacks her on coal jobs. When she gets to WV, she’s met with a bunch of angry coal workers.

Trump has just locked up WV with the one issue that they’re desperate about.

This is not the time to start pontificating conservative social issues. If he sticks with the economy and security, he’ll have Hillary’s guts on the ground before the Conventions.

This is about WINNING THE FREAKING GENERAL NOW.

I think Trump needs to schedule a rally-fundraiser for Nehlen in Janesville Wisconsin, show Ryan who’s boss right in his own home town.

Yes Yes Yes!

Your blather should win the thread’s “turd in the punchbowl award.” About 99% of all on FR are rightfully pissed at Ryan. Deal with it.

I wonder if Ryan, in spite of his protests, was secretly hoping to be the party savior in July through a contested convention at which he would become the nominee.

His present foot stomping pettiness is too strong a response. Reminds me of the hissy fit one of my kids threw when she wasn’t picked for the cheerleading squad.

It could be just as simple as that, and the “agenda” is a cover.

Hyperbolic articles with misleading headlines aside, it will be interesting to see to what extent the Platform Committee and the convention delegates will defer to Trump on major platform issues. Obviously the parties generally want their platforms and presidential candidates to be generally compatible. But the platform represents the entire party, and its candidates at all levels. It is not just a vanity publication for the presidential nominee. Trump is at serious odds with Republican sentiment on quite a number of questions.

Really? Why make your demands to the media? Why not do this behind closed doors. Ryan is a POS.

This is all about who is boss. You think they would have done this with Bush? No. This is to undermine and embarrass Trump.

“One thing is for sure, Donald Trump is smoking out the traitors.”

You have summed up what Trump is doing in one sentence. The rats are being smoked out of their holes.
