Donald Trump: I’m Not ‘Selling Out to Wall Street’ by Bringing On Goldman Sachs Alum
Breitbart ^ | 05/06/16 | John Hayward

Posted on 05/06/2016 10:03:44 AM PDT by winoneforthegipper

On Friday’s Breitbart News Daily, SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon asked Donald Trump about the appointment of his business associate Steven Mnuchin as campaign finance chairman.

The move has been criticized because of Mnuchin’s long tenure with Goldman Sachs–the financial giant seen as a Wall Street villain by the populist constituency that propelled Trump to victory in the GOP primary. In fact, during the Republican primary, Senator Ted Cruz was criticized because his wife Heidi worked for the company.

“Some people are saying, ‘He’s selling out to Wall Street already; he’s gonna have all kinds of favors he’s going to owe Wall Street,’” Bannon noted.

“Well, I needed somebody smart, and he’s very smart, as you know,” Trump said of Mnuchin. “He’s done some amazing deals. I actually did a deal with him in Hawaii; I built a hotel with him in Hawaii. He’s great. He’s a good guy. He’s a solid guy, as you know. And you know, the family is a wonderful family.”

Trump said he was not “selling out” anything in terms of policy by bringing Mnuchin on board his campaign team, insisting he would “keep it more or less the same.”

“He’s raising money for the party,” he said about Mnuchin’s role, adding:

And I’m gonna be putting up a lot of money. So this is money that’s going to the Republican National Committee. I think we could raise a billion dollars, but the Democrats are gonna have two billion dollars. And to raise a billion dollars for the party, you need somebody good.

“I think he’s going to do a great job–but, again, I’m going to be spending a tremendous amount of money, and I expect to,” Trump said.

Exactly.

Trump’s appeal is not his bloviation but his ability. If he delivers a third of that which he trumpets then I am good. It would be a third more than any other republican has ever delivered on.

Sorry, I’ve been told you by the Trumpsters that if you have connections to Goldman Sachs, you must be a one-world, open borders, free traitor bankster crony!

Why? The guy and his father were GS partners, leaving in the 90’s. They’re both geniuses. Tell me why? Should he have picked a guy like you to raise a billion dollars in a few months? You good at that?

“Can someone tell me why Goldman Sachs is a villain ?”

Because it was convenient for a certain crowd to adopt that leftist stance for a while. Now, apparently, it’s no longer convenient, so they have dispensed with it.

Things like this make me want to dig up all the posts condeming Ted because his his wife worked there...

The truth is that I don’t have the time. It would take weeks.

All you know is Goldman Sachs, Goldman Sachs, Goldman Sachs, Goldman Sachs, Goldman Sachs...

You not only don't have the time you also don't have the intelligence to understand the difference.

But while you are trying to hammer that nail home you forgot that your only tool is a rubber mallet.

I have no problem with what he is doing... I do have problem with supporters who can’t admit Trump deceived them about self funding. So I will give it a rest being you probably understand ...

Right now the collection is for the RNC. What part of that do you have an issue with?

Not true at all. While Goldman was selling all that lousy structured mortgage product they were also shorting it after it was sold. So, yes they were guilty of selling the lousy mortgage product but also, knowing it was bad, shorted it to drive Sterns out of business.

Just a week ago, every mention of Heidi Cruz included how awful it was for her to have worked for Goldman Sachs now they're the greatest, most talented bank in Manhattan with flawless fundraisers.

Trump is going to have to raise a lot of money. That money is going to come from special interests; the very people he said wouldn’t own or influence him. Many of us knew that was an impossible position to keep given that it costs $1 billion to run a general election campaign. Why others who didn’t see this can’t admit they were deceived is the question. Trump lent his campaign money because those loans will be paid back to him by the contributions of others. If you’ve read Trump’s books, or watched how he conducts business, he rarely risks his own money. Smart man. Not so smart public.

Neil Bush was on Cruz’s team, and Cruz got heat over the Bush connection. And Cruz’s wife was Goldman Sachs so he got heat over the GS connection. Fair is fair in terms of guilt by association. However, I disapproved of Neil because he helped bring about the savings and loan meltdown. I disapproved of Heidi because she advocated and promoted the north American union.

So, if this guy advocates the north American union or Soros globalization, then I want him out of there.

If he’s just a great money manager and fund raiser, then more power to him.

“I have no problem with what he is doing... I do have problem with supporters who can’t admit Trump deceived them about self funding. So I will give it a rest being you probably understand.”

Oh, can it. Everyone knew Trump was self funding through the primaries. And he basically did. It wasn’t going to be forever. We are about to go into the general election season, which is incredibly expensive. Trump isn’t about to mortgage his Trump Tower to finance the general election too, not if he’s in his right mind.

The RNC comes up with the shekels mainly now, through money Trump and his money men will help fund-raise for, to bring in the bucks. I know you’d love it if Trump funded the general election too and then lost half his business empire doing so if he didn’t win. You’d get off on that, wouldn’t you. Well, it’s not going to happen, because Trump is no dummy when it comes to money. Are you?

I’m sure I’m not the first to point out that your criticisms of Republican Trump violate your screenname.

And as far as your criticism that Trump is inconsistent if he accepts funding for the general election, he never made such a claim.

So if you want your criticism to stand, show us proof that Trump ever claimed such a thing.
