"There are two Republican primaries next week one in Nebraska and one in West Virginia, both set for Tuesday."
"But with the announcement that Donald Trump is the only Republican left with an active campaign, some are asking why bother to go to the polls?" "................................................"
"If youve noticed, when a candidate decides to get out of the race, he or she announces they are suspending their campaigns, they dont say they are ended them. The use of the word suspend is not by chance."
"The Federal Election Commission considers a candidate who has suspended campaigning to still be running for president. The FEC wont formally recognize the end of a campaign until candidates stop taking campaign contributions and have paid off all of their debts. Up until that point, a candidate is still running and still appears on ballots they qualified for."
"But there is a more bottom line reason to suspend a campaign instead of ending it if you are still running, you can continue to received federal matching funds."

Delegates vote on things besides the nominee. They have to approve the VP, and a all of the rule changes that help shape the Republican Party until the next convention. This would be a great time to enact primary/caucus/convention delegate selection reform.
Do you require links?
Excuse me? Do you want the links or are you being obtuse? I am NOT going to waste my time giving you where I got my info IF you have already got a limestone mind.
Don’t worry about any links.
Again, do you know the things you’re saying about Cruz and family for a fact?
I’m not asking you to tell me what others are saying. Just explain in your own words what you know for a fact to be the truth.
The fix is still in.
So you believe that Cruz is no longer interested in becoming the 2016 Republican Presidential candidate?
Worst case, and I know the backlash would be huge, but I'm not sure how much the establishment cares: The establishment packs the convention with anti-Trump delegates. They then approve rules that free "bound" delegates to vote as they wish, even on the first ballot. The result? Kasich (or Jeb, or Rubio, or even Ryan) gets the nomination, and they count on time and on fear of Hillary to heal the anger.
I do not want that to happen, so I care very much who the delegates are, no matter how many delegates Trump officially earns in the primaries. I'll take Cruz delegates over Establishment delegates any day. If Trump had a stroke, Cruz would (appropriately) use delegates loyal to him to take the nomination, and Kasich would not get it. If Trump remains in good health, as I pray will happen, the Cruz delegates would not do something that sleazy, out of self-interest even if for no other reason.
Obtuse? Limestone mind? So now comes the name-calling because someone doesn’t appreciate the trash you’re flinging around.
Basically, you have no proof - that’s because there is none. You have nothing but unsubstantiated innuendo and lies from other tale-bearers.
I love your tagline, BTW. It appears you know where to find the truth that warns of tale-bearing, gossip, slander, so I also won’t waste my time posting links.
I asked you if you wanted 'proof' of what I posted. It would NOT be tale-bearing, gossip, or slander, IF I presented you with the FACTS. I called you NO names. DO your own homework, and stop pretending to be something that you simply are NOT.
The other candidates will still be on the ballot, even though their campaign is suspended. And Trump will still need to reach 1237 before the convention.
I’m not pretending anything. That would be you.
I’m also not the one spreading lies and nonsense, and then pointing to links as my ‘proof’. That would be you.
You have NO FACTS. You have NO PROOF.
You’ve got nothing to base your claims on. You’re simply running to and fro posting your nastiness and slandering a good family.
This is exactly what I think is happening. Lulling Trump voters into not bothering to vote so that Trump can’t get the 1237 delegates necessary before the convention. That’s why Cruz and Kasich pulled out. Teddy’s last dirty trick, probably in cahoots with John Kasich. The final Hail Mary pass to sabotage Trump.
Trump must make sure to get our troops out in the remaining states with primaries, to make sure they vote for him big-time and that they don’t stay at home. I trust Cruz no farther than I can throw him. I am very alarmed. I smell one more plot by the GOPe enemy, Cruz and Kasich Trump must remain vigilant. His enemies lurk all around him, trying to do him in, from Paul Ryan on down.
Doesn’t matter. Cruz would never be an acceptable nominee. He didn’t win the voters and they will reject him again.
There will be lots of uncommitted delegates coming on board with the Trump bandwagon.
Plus he already had 1004 prior to Indiana and won all 57 delegates there so he’s at plus or minus 1,060.
Yes, and no. Cruz was first runner up in this beauty contest, while Trump definitely owned it. If Trump is genuinely unable to finish (because of something real and not just his delegates turning traitor on the first ballot), voters would be okay with Cruz stepping in. Ted Cruz had little chance against Trump, but he decisively beat everyone else.
Cruz v. Hillary is not a sure thing either way, and that's as much as you can ask in such a situation. Fortunately, that is an unlikely hypothetical. Still, I'm glad Cruz is preparing for it, just in case.
No thanks, don’t keep me in mind. You seem to be focusing on the legal definition of slander and I’m pretty much positive there will be no lawsuits. However, that does not mean there’s been no slander against Sen. Cruz and family.
You don’t have the faintest idea of what Sen. Cruz is thinking or what he’s doing and why he’s doing it, which means you’re making stuff up.
You offered links which are supposed to be proof of something. All they prove is people have an appetite for gossip and stirring the pot, and for spreading rumors, innuendo, lies until they’ve been heard so many times that they become the truth to many. And if someone doesn’t deny the claims, it’s somehow proof.
Well, I’ve noticed something ... if someone does say it’s not the truth, then we hear. “yeah right, then how come...” and ‘round and ‘round we go.
