Top allies break with Ryan over Trump

Two prominent House allies of Paul Ryan broke with the speaker Friday over his decision to withhold support from Donald Trump, comments that point to a growing split among congressional Republicans over how to deal with the presumptive nominee.

Reps. Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia and Dennis Ross of Florida — who, as House whips, help Republican leaders muster support to pass legislation — told POLITICO in interviews on Friday that they disagreed with Ryan’s decision to break with Trump in a bombshell interview a day earlier. Both lawmakers said they believe their leader is in denial about how Republican voters feel about the real-estate tycoon.

“I honestly don’t understand what Paul’s thinking — I don’t get it,” said Westmoreland, who is retiring after this year. “I try not to give advice to the speaker, but I think it just really brought about, in my opinion, even more confusion to this thing.”

“Trust me, I haven’t been on the Donald Trump bandwagon, but I will support him, and I disagree with Ryan’s comment,” Ross said. “I think it’s time we unite (and) … extend an olive branch and start working this out.”

I for one am staying calm and hoping Paul Ryan sees the wisdom of supporting Trump and the new emphasis on America First and Make America Great Again.

I thought the Cheney endorsement was very telling. It tells me there was a riff in the whitehouse. It became glaring when Bush let Scooter swing in the wind. Cheney is no big supporter of Trump as he is Mr. DC/Industry subsidy on steroids but in this case he knows where the rest of his base lays and it is not with the GOPe, sell outs and panty waisted simpletons all.

> He needs to be Primaried just for the figure head he represents.

I’d like to see Trump save his a$$ in the primaries. That’ll give Trump a big advantage working with congress, which has to be done for almost anything Trump wants (e.g. immigration reform). A new speaker may turn out ok but could be another Boehner/Pelosi-lite and certainly no guarantee he/she’ll work with Trump.

I’d love to see Trump tell the speaker “you WILL deliver a budget this year. No more omnicrap or I’ll shut down the government and you will be blamed.” That’s not abusing balance of power like some will claim. That’s the executive telling the legislative to do their primary job and that’s what I hope/expect from Trump. Owning Ryan will help.

The only downside is that, even as a Trump supporter, I have concerns about what he’ll really do. Those are eased by the fact that our congress can decide to be an equal branch of government again if Trump goes over the line. If he owns Ryan that’s less likely.

Ryan has a challenger, Paul Nehlen, who we need to support. Nehlen endorses Trump.

We take out Ryan, It will have effects through the next 3 election cycles. All those reps and Senators will say... geeze if the chopped off the head of the speaker I am even easier to go."

AMEN. He'd only have to do that once or twice to those sellouts to put the Fear of Trump into them, for their only desire in life is to be re-elected and rake in that lush govt. pension.

“I believe Ryan used to have good intentions. Somewhere along the line, he sold out to the establishment. I don’t know if it was when he teamed up with Mitt but he definitely sold out.”

Paul Ryan is a Trojan horse. He was mentored and brought into DC politics by CESAR CONDA, the most powerful, worst of the worst of K St. handlers/Lobbyist/immigration lawyers to push amnesty and TPP type trade.

Who runs the GOP and owns Paul Ryan & Marco Rubio? Let’s name names!

I don't think it is selling out as much as it is succumbing to Stockholm Syndrome. I think that a lot of the people we elect to represent us find themselves in a hostile environment once they get to DC--and a certain percentage of people placed in such an environment begin to identify with their oppressors. This is one of the reasons I would like to see representatives live in their home districts and only spend a limited amount of time in DC (one or two months per year, at most). This way, they would be psychologically distanced from the hostile environment and more able to withstand it when they are there.

Ryan & Co. are sellouts. They have sold and are selling the US and us out.

I for one look forward to the political extermination of thoroughly useless Ryan-o. He went to DC as a young idealist but has become a total whore. I live a very few miles south of his district. My Congressidiot Adam Kinzinger should go as well for the same reasons but has not drawn a significant challenger.

Nehlen was ahead 46% to 41% in a poll several weeks ago. The primary is August 9. Nehlen had been a Ryan contributor but has had enough of the Fanny Hill of Wisconsin politics. If Nehlen already leads Ryan-o, it is not going to get any better for Ryan-o. This is a major story in the making. Nehlen is going to Cantorize Ryan-o.

My saying.....
You can send a good man to DC and then he turns into a politician.

Sad, isn't it? We should stop sending them to DC. Keep them home, and keep them honest.

I really hope Ryan gets Cantorized and loses his primary.

In their meeting next week, I bet the big message from Ryan will be to “go easy” on Hillary.

Ryan is a bought and paid for stooge of the cheap Labor Express. Multi-national politicians who have abandoned the rule of law and the citizens do not get unbought.
The only cure is Cantorization.
Removal by primary.

I hope Trump blasts that pansy for continuing Boehner’s support of Obamatollah by passing that $1 TRILLION Omnibus spending bill against the wishes of the American people.

Ryan and the rest of the rinos have no sense of loyalty whatsoever. They have gamed the system to screw the electorate and have that same electorate vote them in again. You are a fool to believe that he will see that trump saved him and support him... It is just that kind of thinking that got us here!

Paul Ryan must go...and, right now!!! Reince “Weak Sister” Priebus should demand Ryan’s immediate resignation form the House, the House Speakership & the Republican party. End of story. This guy is an outright traitor to the GOP and every voter that cast a vote for Donald J. Trump. Mr. Trump....you owe this low life piece of human vermin nothing!!! If i were you, I would not even dignify this human rag, Ryan, by attending his meeting!!! Paul Ryan should come to you, and, on bended knee begging forgiveness!!!
