Washington (CNN) - Sarah Palin says she wouldn't want to be a "burden" on the Republican ticket by becoming Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee acknowledged to CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" that she's a controversial figure, nudging Trump to look elsewhere and saying that there are "so many other great people out there."

"I want to help and not hurt, and I am such a realist that I realize there are a whole lot of people out there who would say, 'Anybody but Palin.' I wouldn't want to be a burden on the ticket, and I realize in many, many eyes, I would be that burden," Palin said.

“The fact that she’s smart enough to see this makes her more eligible in my eyes. Paradox... Oh well...”

Agreed. I am sure there will be other prestigious and important roles she can fill in the cabinet. But she is right, she would make it more of an uphill slog, given the mountain of propaganda the Republican and Democrat left have dumped on her.

“Whoever is chosen CANNOT be an open borders/amnesty person.
It MUST be someone who is unequivocally on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.”

Agreed. I would say someone young, was well. Someone to groom as a successor.

Good to hear. Sarah Palin is tarnished goods....meaning too many middle of the road swing voters havea negative view of her. I don’t think she would help an and would hurt.

However, Trump certainly needs to pick someone on teh sme page as him on the issues. It’d make no sense to pick Kasich, Rubio or some establishment guy.

What a great patriot Sarah Palin is. She knows that her reputation was destroyed by the Romney/McCain group through the MSN.

She has sacrificed enough for her country yet WILL still be a force the elites must reckon with.

I’m waiting to see who she thinks would make a great VP and Trump will surely listen.

Paul RINO is going to find out just how relevant Palin is.

Palin has more common sense than you. She realizes she would be an overall negative for Trump.

I agree. Sarah would be a great VP pick. Just like Trump, she has the ability to fight like a mama grisly bear in attack mode against her opponents. Didn't Hillary just say we need a woman in the executive branch for the first time? Well, Sarah would be that woman as well as a solid conservative. By the way, McCain wouldn't have gotten even close to the votes he got in 08 if it hadn't been for Sarah. She deserves a second chance and my opinion a Trump/Palin ticket is a winner.

The fact that she’s smart enough to see this makes her more eligible in my eyes.

That is one great, smart, patriotic lady. HOORAY Sarah.

Yep. Teams need all sorts of players. Palin does well as a free agent and could just keep doing that I think - particularly if she doesn’t want the job. That’s a call for Trump and Palin.

VP is a figure head job. But it would still be helpful to pick a conservative that helps unite the party. That’s a key ingredient IMO that is needed now. A united Pub party and Hillary is toast.

VP is a figure head job.

Countless Freepers make that error, and it's a error of Biblical proportions.

GWH Bush was VP, how did that turn out?

Her honesty has just moved her up a couple of notches. She will not help his ticket, but she can serve the country well in a different capacity.

GWH Bush was a figure head while VP. They all are.

Yes — you make a good point. The VP slot can position someone to run for President. Some of them make it. Many don’t. In many cases after 8 years the public has had enough and extending an administration another four years doesn’t always work out so well. Anyway — Palin seems to do better as an outsider.

GWH Bush was lucky to follow Reagan and run against Dukasis. :-) BTW I was on the floor of the RNC convention when Bush was nominated. As I recall the country was so much different then ... I had no idea then that almost 30 years later the country would be run by someone more liberal than Dukasis.

I believe Governor Palin has come to see her role as a outsider, not personally connected to any specific politician.

By maintaining her independence, she maintains her freedom to express herself without filters. Considering how much the inside-the-beltway power structure can influence federal government, her strong common-sense advocacy can be a great public service.

For evidence, look at the current Presidential campaign. As I said in another post, Donald Trump is Sarah Palin’s payback to the Republican Establishment.

Evidently, Momma Grizzlies memories are longer than elephants.

I’d love for DJT to appoint her to the EPA with the sole task to shut it down. Then onward to the DOE, and on and on until the Feds were in 100% compliance with the Constitution. She would take no prisoners ~ ha!
