Pat Buchanan shot himself in the foot during his run with the “Jews are running the world” delusions....His campaign came to a grinding halt.

Buchanan made some objectionable comments over the years. That wasn't one of them. And he wasn't talking about Jews during his presidential campaigns, so far as I can recall. Things that he'd said earlier did come back to hurt his campaign though.

You shouldn’t post slander

Google it. It’s not slander.

I’m more than familiar with the story. I watched it all develop way back when Young Peoples Socialist League president Joshua Muravchik wrote the first hit piece about it for Commentary Magazine. It was slander then and it still is now. I doubt that you know that they also included Ronald Reagan in their charges of anti-Semitism- the Bitburg ceremony was their “proof”- but then that didn’t play as well so the character assassins dropped that part of their little game. They’d be proud to see that it’s still working well enough that people still repeat it. One of the more shameful aspects of the whole affair was Buckley’s cowardice.

Reagan was no savior for me - he destroyed the commercial fishing industry - helped put me out of business by his kowtowing to wacko environmentalists. I lost a $100K a year job skippering a brand new tuna seiner which, thanks to his “efforts,” was never built. You keep him.

I am interested in your story. When and where did all this happen, and under what particular set of governmental rules and regulations?

IIRC, the Bush VP nomination was some sort of compromise Reagan agreed to in order to placate the establishment types. I imagine they’re trying a similar thing with Trump right now. Hopefully he tells them to pound sand.

I was a Buchanan supporter. I attended several of his primary meetings.

It was on the campaign trail that I personally heard him, and decided he was looney tunes when it came to Israel’s role in the world.

Then you must be able to cite exactly what position of his you equate with anti-Semitism. And what was it?

I remember being in a meeting room at one of the downtown hotels in Dallas, and about half-way through his speech, he commented on how the US is controlled by the Jews and the Jewish lobby. Then toward the end, he talked about how the financial industry was controlled by Jews.

If you are interested, just go on Wikiquote and read some general quotes from Buchanan. There are quite a few that will raise your eyebrows.

You are right on that. Buchanan or Steve Forbes would have been better candidates. Dole was worse than just a Dud, he was a has been who never should have been allowed to run.

It is a story so long and painful I cannot write about it and if I did 100K words would still not due it justice.

Basically the federal government under Nixon and Reagan decided that the commercial fishing industry as was then constituted was worth only what federal taxes it generated and was best made up of people working for hourly wages under federal management under federal guidelines on government owned boats as the present system allowed individuals to be free which was intolerable.

Reagan’s claim to fame in all this was to impose environmental regulations which made it impossible for the American tuna seine fleet to continue to operate out of California or anywhere in the US - so they all left. Nearly at the same time the East and West coast marine boundaries with Canada were formalized with the best fishing grounds going to the Canadians and forcing the US northern fleets to fish relatively unproductive grounds thereby becoming noncompetitive and unprofitable. Effort that continue to this day.

In the same time period theoretical aboriginal law became codified case law using all the powers and tricks only federal lawyers with unlimited financial resources can bring to such cases. These laws were enforced by the Coast Guard to the point of .50 cal weapons pointed at fishermen armed with single shot seal guns (shooting seals and sea lions was legal then). Fire bombing fisherman’s boats and actually shooting to kill by local fish cops occurred. Treaty Tribes were now our Special Masters and had the ‘right’ to harvest 80% of the harvestable salmon with the remaining 20% for all others - termed Non-Indians (to include blacks, aka African Americans). In practice, the 80% sometimes turned into all the salmon leaving none to spawn eliminating races which the Non-Indian commercial salmon fishermen had labored, paid to restore, and enhance for half a century.

Some of this is documented on my old fish site and in the section on case law - see FR About page.
