Connecticut’s U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro nominated for 14th term (barf alert)
New Haven Register ^ | 5/9/2016 | Mary O'Leary

NAUGATUCK >> A cancer researcher, an expert on childhood obesity, the former owner of a shuttered factory and an advocate for food stamps highlighted the issues that they said defined why Rosa DeLauro should be nominated for a 14th term as the representative from the congressional 3rd District.

There were no surprises Monday night as she was unanimously endorsed, as were the other four Democratic U.S. House representatives from Connecticut, in separate conventions.

Dr. Roy Herbst, chief of medical oncology at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital, said DeLauro has focused on growing the country’s investment in basic science and research and managed to get $2 billion added to the National Institutes of Health budget, the largest boost since 2003.(snip)

Marlene Schwartz, director of the UConn Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, admired DeLauro for lobbying against tax breaks for food companies that continue to market unhealthy food to children, setting them up for lifelong eating patterns that hurt them.

Kim Hart, a single mother and a member of the New Haven Food Council, spoke of the need for food stamps and how they make a difference every week.

DeLauro said food stamps are a powerful program to end hunger, something that impacts over 439,000 people in the state.

“Republicans want to shift SNAP ( food stamps) to the states, in order to cut benefits. Their proposals to address poverty are a sham — and a danger to millions of families,” DeLauro said.

She said the stories of these four people “represent the reality of life in American today. ... There is so much on the line in this election—and I will not back down to Republicans who are asleep at the wheel, failing to enact policies that actually help working families.”

Finalist for most hardcore kool-aid drinking Stalinist liberal out there.

This nightmare has been re-elected over and over, for 25 years.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Who the dope in the House who wears those goofy looking cowboy hats? She looks like an idiot and is a disgrace to decorum in the House chamber.

For some reason she keeps winning "Keith Richards in drag" contests.

Yes, there is someone out there who dresses worse than Michael (Michelle) Obama.
