Time ^ | May 12, 2016 | Sam Frizell

Donald Trump is considering former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as one possible option for his running mate in November, according to a source familiar with the discussions...

Gingrich has praised Trump in the past, telling TIME he has “the potential to be an extraordinarily dynamic president who shakes up a bureaucratic city that badly needs to be shaken up.”

The problem with Cruz at SCOTUS would be his quisling attitude with regard to corporations.

Most of the Supreme Court decisions that have been decried as "conservative" by the MSM were not really conservative. They were pro-corporate.

Cruz would be one of the most adamantly pro-corporate justices of all time.

If you want your cable company to continue to ignore you and continue to provide you with bad service at outrageous prices, then do whatever you can to get Cruz on the Supreme Court. Similarly with regard to decisions regarding H-1b, corporate influence on elections, corporate avoidance of taxes, etc. And he would just love an opportunity to green light whatever mischief Goldman-Sachs wants to try and get away with.

Exactly. Trump needs a VP under 60.

So the establishment can find an excuse to remove Trump? Better have an unpalatable but competent second in command as insurance.

Cruz should be nowhere near SCOTUS. He does not demonstrate good judgment.

That, or I could choose a different television provider.

There was Kelo.

I think the Obamacare decision was ultimately pro-corporate because the insurance companies had given their blessing to it.

The Citizens United case might have gone the right way, but probably not because it was the correct decision. More likely the more pro-corporate decision.

The whole gay marriage thing is pro-corporate because it makes it easier for global corporations to craft human resource policies that apply to all of their employees regardless of what state they live in.

It might have made sense for conservatives to be pro-business when businesses were run by patriotic Americans and were more locally owned, operated, and oriented.

But now that huge swaths of the economy are run by global corporations that want the laws to be the same everywhere, then it doesn't make much sense for conservatives to support corporations in general.

We lost the universities. We lost the arts. We lost the government. Now we're losing the business world.

It's truly sad, and the Supreme Court is no longer the last bulwark against creeping socialism.

Agreed. As was posted on FR earlier tonight, Trump needs someone about 55. Single heartbeat and all that.

Just guessing... a VP short list could be hundreds, if not dozens, etc. Nobody knows what the base figure is, when compared to the slogan- a VP short list.

There is plenty of time to vet everybody worthy of consideration, prior to the Convention.

Good luck everybody!

All extremely-salient points, without objection.

With the current DC-based "Lawyeroscracy", the nation may be lost.

No Second Amendment, at least yet.

Gingrich fits the bill.

Yes, he made a stupid step with Pelosi and Global Warming, but he admitted in hindsight that it was a really dumb thing he did. So at least he has the power to self-correct.

But we need to caution Newt not to get wrapped up in fads and hype. He needs to be very smart and very focused. I think he will be a good VP for President Trump because he fills the need that Donald described which is to have someone who is terrific and who is really experienced with getting things done in Congress.

Newt also had very good advice for Donald when the photos of Melania were scandalized through the scumbag media. If Donald had received Newt’s advice how to handle it, he would have gained points in the polls rather than hit a bump in the road. It shows that Newt has political media vision that Donald can benefit from.

I really like the image of Ben Carson as VP as he’s gentle and so intelligent. But unfortunately, he just doesn’t have the experience working with Congress. I hope he’s not put in the Surgeon General slot as many expect. He should be given a bigger profile and a challenge that with the public will increase his reputation for good governance. After a term in the White House perhaps as Secretary of the Interior, he could run for governor of Maryland.

Ben is 64 so he’s not out of range to run for President in the future but he may finish out his career in politics as a goodwill ambassador at large. perhaps as Secretary of State. It’s almost a given that Donald is going to pack the State Department with hard-nosed trade negotiators but there’s always a need for a person to finesse a series of meetings when the tension has risen to the boiling point.

Agree 100%. Cruz should not only not be anywhere near the next administration, he should be primaried when he comes up for reelection.
