Obama, Truman, and Hiroshima
Real Clear Politics/Wall St. Journal ^ | May 12, 2016 | Wilson Miscamble

Posted on 05/13/2016 4:34:14 AM PDT by SJackson

The White House announcement Tuesday that President Obama plans to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park during his trip to Japan later this month undoubtedly will prompt much debate over President Truman’s decision to use atomic weapons in August 1945.

Ben Rhodes, a deputy national-security adviser, wrote online Tuesday that the president will reflect on the site’s significance but “will not revisit the decision to use the atomic bomb at the end of World War II.” That claim is disingenuous. To be the first U.S. president to visit Hiroshima is to spark re-evaluations of Truman’s action and invite speculation that Mr. Obama will apologize, at least implicitly.

This is the debate.

Japan started the war at Pearl Harbor.

We finished it at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Lesson: If you start something with a country with three times your population and about four times your industrial capacity when you have no oil, you just might get your but handed to you.

More apologies can be expected.

They started it, we finished it. If for one moment, had the Japanese or Nazis developed the A-bomb before the US did, do you think they would have hesitated to use it against us???

Remember Pearl Harbor and F all revisionist history.

Those two bombs saved the lives of tens of millions of Japanese.

The Japanese, at the time a nation of roughly 70 million, had a slogan - “One Hundred Million to Die for the Emperor”.

Had the US not nuked Japan, Japan would likely still be a violent racist murderous empire. Japanese should thank the US for crushing their masters and freeing them from the backwards dictatorship they once languished under.

I would highly recommend this short video by Bill Whittle for readers of your thread, SJackson. There will be much discussion of this issue, and I think Mr. Whittle covers it better than any article or discussion I have seen.

The very fact that Obungo is going to Hiroshima is an apology.

Why would you apologize for winning a war we didn’t start?

No debate. My mother’s husband would have been slaughtered. Just as her first one was slaughtered in Germany in ‘42.

Japan had sites on the west coast, if they could fly their planes that far. The US was fighting a war in Europe and Truman made the decision that we were not going to lose any more lives in a war on another front. He took full responsibility for his actions ... he was one democrat who lived up to his convictions and the buck did stop at his door. We helped rebuild their country .. we sought no conquest .. it’s sad for the lives that were lost on those 2 bombings, but their leader brought this on .... it took a second one before he surrendered. Lesson learned.... the United States will defend our land... that is until the street organizer took the helm... it’s all been sent downhill for 8 years. We want America to be great again.. No apologies! Strength and honor.. God bless the United States of America!
